I have a 2002 ford focus. I attached a picture.

Could one of you nice gentleman please tell me what is the thing that is inside the red circle? It is round and has a plastic cap and is bolted to the side of the engine.

Thank you for any help. [:)]

That's the passenger side engine mount.

Thank you for the welcome. and thank you for the help. I really don't know much about cars but I know that this focus has been so good to me that I'll defiantly be getting another one when this one is sadly retired.

about the part being a "mount"? is that why it had two or three layers of metal and rubber disks inside of it? The crazy thing that happened was the car started to sound like it had a loose belt so I opened up the hood to see where it was coming from and I found that plastic cover on my belt. It was melted half way through!

so is this bad? or is it an easy fix?

Is it leaking fluid out of the mount?

Do you have a dash or steering wheel vibration that has gotten worse?

Is that belt torn up?

They are a pretty easy fix. A 3/8" ratchet, a 6" 3/8" extension, a metric deep well socket set(in 3/8"), a floor jack and a short piece of 2"x4"wood that is around 8" long and you can do it yourself. There are YouTube video's that show this very repair.

This being said, ONLY buy Motorcraft passenger side motor mounts. Any other brand and you will be doing the work again real soon because, they are made cheaply. Even if they say that there is a lifetime warranty on the part. The same goes for ignition coils on our cars.

^^^ X2

If you can see the layers inside there with the protective cover popped off, the bladder inside is broken & fluid leaked out - probably a while ago. Vibration is sure to get progressively worse at this point.

Like he said, don't buy that mount over the counter at the parts store, Ford only. The aftermarket has not learned yet how to make that part correctly after years of trying. They commonly vibrate new and if they don't they break in 6 months.

that is good advice. I looked back and I did have that replaced on my car by an autoshop like 8 months ago. grr. I'm so mad, why would they use that junk part to fix my car!?

So I want ahead and bought the good oem? part #YS4Z-6038-BA this should be much better and now I just need my freind to put it in for me.

Thank you again you have all been so sweet and helpful!! [loveff]

I'm trying out an Anchor passenger mount - I have read both sides of getting OEM or not and I'll try out the Anchor mount, if it doesn't work out I'll just buy an OEM.

The important thing I read is to make sure the engine is lined up and your mounts will be fine.

I'd take that back & get a Ford/ Motorcraft one.

Meh, I'll give it a try. Will take way too long to change it. I'll probably just order a spare OEM one anyway.
