I just concluded the worst transaction I've ever been involved with...
All the little things I was worried about, that I tossed around in the back of my head, have come to fruition and all I can do about it is warn you guys.

I "won" an auction on eBAY and corresponded with the seller about arranging shipping. The first hurdles were the time difference from the east coast of America to Bum[:)][:)][:)][:)][:)], England, emails were days apart and shipping was never delved into in any way. They did send a picture of the items before they had packed them, but only after I insisted on seeing the items before I submitted my paypal... needless to say what I saw in that first picture WAS NOT even remotely close to what I received.

They sent this picture to tell me one of the housings had a small scratch, I was planning on matching paint color so it didn't really matter. This was before I insisted on better pics.

These are the pics they sent after I requested a better look

AAAAAnd then what I just got in the mail:

This ended up being a $300+ lesson... So I'm just making you all aware!

This is a copy of the email I sent back to them:
"To C---- B-------
... This is not a good email...

The Morette lights I bought from your company finally arrived... utterly destroyed! The further I dug into the box the more and more my heart sank and my blood boiled. This debacle could've EASILY been avoided had the items been more appropriately packed in the bubble wrap AND more importantly: IN AN APPROPRIATE SIZED CONTAINER

Words cannot fully or accurately portray how utterly seething I am after having received the "package" you sent me. It looks like a distracted teenager packed and shipped these lights... The material they're made of is weak and cheap like a plastic mask for small children! How could you not do ANYTHING more to ensure they arrived in ONE PIECE! The bubble wrap wasn't taped or secured in any way, they were just loosely tossed in bags and crammed into a box that would barely be large enough to accommodate one of them AND the requisite amount of packing material! The box itself was taped back together, it appears it had been used several times before your intrepid employee negated my purchase with their negligence... and with your company not even presenting an option for me to purchase shipping insurance; I'm just out-of-luck?!?! THIS IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE!!!

I need some reassurances here and a line of dialogue with a manager or someone there with some clout in regard to this robbery I was party to before I spread copies of this correspondence AND the multitude of pictures I took to every darkened corner of the internet in both my country AND YOURS!!!! I'm especially upset because the lights are constructed of such low-grade material that paying to have these things repaired would be negligible and a further waste of money! There is literally no salvageable portion of these light to hold out hope for a decent repair. The direction this transaction has turned out has left me feeling raped... There is absolutely no way I will ever purchase another ANYTHING from your company. I will never recommend this company; I will however inform my fellow enthusiasts to avoid your company AT ALL COSTS... disparagement is a word that starts to approach the right vernacular.

This has been the worst and single-most disappointing international purchase/transaction I've ever had the displeasure of being stuck with!!! I've been buying parts FROM EUROPE for my vehicle since 2002 and not one time have I had such a regrettable experience. I shall sing my disdain for this on every forum, internet and public, available to me... If there is a way for me to claim fraud and attempt to get my money back, I fully intend on pursuing that and any other avenue that avails itself to me.

COMPLETELY disappointed and pissed,
-Matt Girard"

You said it was eBay. File a claim. eBay will freeze the funds that you paid them til it's resolved in their account. Of you send eBay that email with the pics, you'll win 110% for sure. You will, however, have to talk to them first, as eBay will want to try and have them either refund you or ship you a new set f lights before they force a refund.

Just an FYI. If had to do this a few times.

I feel your pain man I too once had a set of euro tail light shipped over from the UK and when they got to me and they looked like that. the biggest problems with shipping over seas is customs and the shipping company's.

the euro tails that I got where shipped DHL and sat in customs for 2 days when the package showed up it looked like someone played kick ball with the box

you should easily get your money back or a brand new set of lights out of this

I posted this in a fit of rage... it took twice as long to type, as I kept misspelling things and cussing as I corrected it. I sent the email to them right before the post, and I'll retract my statements if they make good on the situation, but this chapped my ass and now I'm weary of online stuff!

Thanks for the tips, though! I couldn't think straight about anything all night... I was hoping to run across a wife-beater, or crime in progress so I could justifiably take out my aggression on the perp!

I would have left a comment to them to resolve the issue before sending them a nasty e-mail. They clearly want to work with you or they wouldn't sent the first pictures. Yes they should have packaged them properly and I'm sure they was damaged during shipping. If they was willing to help you out before the purchase then they would have most likely help you resolve it but possibly not after the email unless paypal can pay you back. I have always had good transactions from ebay users and great communication. Most will send a recipe to talk to them if any issues occur.

Yeah... That's why I didn't curse in the email, but I was pretty pissed. I had NO IDEA what to do before reading the responses from this thread though, I'm still convinced they're gonna stick me because there was no shipping insurance.

I'm also freaking out about a set of tail lights I shipped to Amsterdam a week ago! The only solace in that situation is that I packed them myself and went overboard on the bubble wrap (3 layers and paper crumples in an adequately-sized box)... I don't wanna slander my own name on the forums by shipping something improperly and wasting everyone's time.

A dispute has been filed with PayPal and a complaint has been filed with eBay.co.uk as well as the initial email sent directly to the seller. Ugh!

Yeah, it could've been shipping.
Month ago I sent a package age via USPS and it looked like it went through a compactor when the guy got it and all the parts were destroyed. :(

Well, this whole process just keeps getting better! I'm attempting to sort things out with the seller before I 'escalate the claim' with PayPal and eBay, and the guy was getting back to me pretty quick up until I asked for my money back; now I haven't heard a peep in a week! I sent one last-ditch email hoping to extract some info about my refund, so I wanna wait until Monday night before I move forward.

EFF THIS SUCKS!

Well good news; my faith has be restored in online purchasing.

The manager had reviewed the circumstances after I sent another email and the company has instructed me to keep what parts ARE salvageable and trash everything else.

So first thing Monday morning, they're refunding my money.

I'm going to post the communications here after work as a cautionary tale for online purchases. To the moderator of this thread : I'd like to re-title this thread "Cautionary Tales of Online/Overseas Transactions". I've amended my first post to eliminate the sellers names, and edited the sentence structure to be used as reference information to folks considering an overseas purchase.

Matt / Chris
sorry to take so long but having gone through the whole story I elect to refund the lights

Chris – please remind me first thing Monday to refund Matt

Matt – throw away the broken parts and keep the good parts as spares

Hope this is okay with both of you ?

best Regards G---- H----

Sorry to see such a rare set of headlights show up that way. Morettes are made of some pretty thin plastic. You can recoup some of the cost selling the projectors as they are pretty good, made by valeo IIRC.

As to ebay, I have had a few unfortunate situations, but paypal always ruled in my favor, so a waste of time and money for a few weeks.

I suggest you file with ebay and paypal. Ebay's buyer protection, if the auction was covered is pretty thorough. I'd wait to sell anything before there are any judgements.

As to buying headlights from Europe goes, you are not the first to have broken headlights show up. Mostly broken mounting tabs, but still, not 100%. If I were to make any suggestions for the future, there are shops that sell worldwide who have thousands of transactions and 99%+ feedback. I would take a shot with one of them as they should have better packaging, should being the key word.

I had a semi recent ebay experience this year with an american seller for a set of Mach headlights. When they showed up, they were trashed. I filed with ebay and paypal and the seller refunded the full amount of the purchase and let me keep the Machs, so I parted them out ;) .

Good luck.

The seller was good with communications and after 4-5 emails everything seems to be fleshing out well. Overseas stuff is a little complicated due to the time differences, and I usually don't have any issues... This particular seller kept in touch and I only ever had to look into PayPal and eBay follow-ups; but it's ended up alright. If nothing else the seller, and now the enthusiasts, knows to use a larger box than before. If you order anything from the UK and have the opportunity to request extra packaging materials, also request a slightly larger box, too!

Cool. Good to hear everything has worked out. Excellent advice too.
