Had my new Focus S now for two weeks, been in the shop for two weeks. When I took delivery, and had payed for it, the sales guy told me the car had a minor paint problem. So went outside to look at the newly purchased Focus and found it covered in white paint speckles all over the car. Looked like it was parked outside a paint booth and took some overspray. Long story short, he said it would be no problem to remove it and their detailing "tech" was going to get it right. Needless to say, it is now in the shop for a third try to get all the paint off and now to remove the scratches on the roof and trunk that the power cord to the buffer made. Not that the paint won't come off, this is all dealer performance related. Never mind the fact that the sales guy didn't tell me about the problem until after I payed cash for the car. Guess I should have inspected the vehicle before laying dough on the table. Stupid me. I can hear Ford Canada already saying >>>>>We support our dealers, not our customers.

NOT HAPPY. In the process we also suffered a rock chip on the hood. I was suprised at how soft the UH black paint is. Dealer has now agreed to replace the paint speckled mirrors, and fix the chip as well as cover the hood in 12" of M3. I think I prefer the tape over the bug deflector but time will tell. He won't be able to get all the speckles off the rubber and roof strips though and they are not easily replaced.

Anybody else have had problems with the UH coded black paint from Ford?

Slightly OT, but does anyone else remember this?

That looks like just another ordinary day driving in Calgary. They don't use sand on the roads here in the winter, they use gravel. Actually, closer to "boulders".
Fortunately they sweep it up for re-use next winter, usually around mid June, lol.

For anyone looking for paint, it seems the following paints have had the Ford "basic" number changed from 19500 (what it has been forever) to 19K507. I am a Ford parts person (no flames, please) and to get the correct # to order my Blue Candy paint I had to email fords parts assistance.

PMP-19K507-7204A White Platinum
" " 7238A Yellow Blaze
" " 7252A Blue Candy

just tell your Ford parts person the "'basic" number isnt 19500 but 19K507. You will get a surprised look for sure.

Got my first rock chip on the hood and looks pretty deep too. I've never tried touching up car paint myself so I was wondering if any of you guys have any advice on how to actually do the touch up yourself? Do you just straight up apply it or is there some primer, sanding, etc involved?

I'm torn on this whole issue since I'm not crazy about the look of the bug defector. Also, when I have had bug defectors, they end up damaging the paint at contact points with the vibration that takes place. The clear 3M stuff would probably be OK for a while but I suspect it eventually gets cloudy either from ultraviolet or the abuse it takes. It may be more resilient than paint but it's not magic. Then, down the road can you just peel it off and reveal brand new looking paint??. If yes, then it would make the top half of the hood look bad. If not?? Seems like to might be in a bad pickle either way.

I was leaning more towards a LEBRA CUSTOM-FIT HOOD PROTECTORS type to use just on long hwy trips which is where I get 80% of my damage. I don't like the looks of them much but I imagine they are pretty easy to install and remove. There are not available yet for the 2012 so even that is not an option currently.

I have had very poor results doing touch up even with the Duplicolor Repair kit that contains all the filler/primer/sandpaper etc. Its the right color again but looks like crap. May be my lack of skill.

Take a look at magnetbra.com. I had several and they go on and off with no hooks, etc.

Easy on and easy off.

Just make sure when you do get the magnet Bra that you clean the area on the hood and apply a good coat of wax to the "bra area"!! I had mine on my new chevrolet Cobalt for over two years and never took it off. When I traded it in for another vehicle the bra area was just like new.
I made sure that when I applied the MagnetBra that it was on with "NO AIR" bubbles and it fit like a glove. No water could even get "under" it.
I'm sure they will have one available soon. Good luck!!!
