Had my SVT with JRSC/BBK dynoed today. I decided to get 3 runs and each with different type of intake since there's always a debate into what makes more power on a roots blower. 1st run with SVT airbox. 2nd run with a no airbox (shortram) and third run was with my home made cold air intake.
My only mods are all 3 motor mounts, springs, kyb dampers. Stock everything else and I'm running the Ford Racing BBK tune. Chime in and post your opinions but numbers don't lie.Also- I recorded the runs but my battery died. I will post them in a bit.

so which one did better

JRSC is roots type. Centrifugal can't make torque that flat.

Everyone needs to understand how UNRELIABLE this test is , My guess is the hood was open , there was a fan in front of the car , take these test and close the hood , have the heat from the engine under the hood , the 210 deg air coming through the raid , the radient heat from the road and the results from this test would change BIG TIME

wow !!!! well considering that you're a "focusfanatic" veteran Tom i would
expect you to stay with the topic. The dyno was to "PROVE WHICH IS THE BEST INDUCTION SYSTEM FOR THE JRSC SVT" and nothing more since i have the time and money, why not ? Rest assure that if i wanted a faster car i would not have gone with a focus, the 42K i saved in Iraq would easily let me do that.
By the way what is wrong with putting a fan in front of the car for the dyno ? Is moving air not a factor while driving? and why do you so often and desperately need to jump in and discredit people and if they're not getting tuned by you and feeding your wallet which i've seen you do quite a bit? Not everyone wants a "tom's tune & turbo.

lol coffee, well thats big improvement, but what tom says might be true, you say you got the money, could you please do it again (if you can of course)with no fan and with closed hood, that way we would see the real difference and the guys with sc might get some horses out of this.. just saying, it would be interesting

i dont see much of a problem with having a fan in front of the car but the fact that the hood is open and the fan is keeping the heat blown out from under the hood is the prob. i would think as long as your cold air is coming from the right spot you will still see a good increase with the hood down but not with the short ram.

[facepalm] OK OK OK OK.....Just so everyone who reads this understands how a test and tune works....first off you HAVE to have the hood open during your testing, becuase it ables more air into the engine bay, and the fan infront of the car act as air moving in through the rad. and yes the air that comes in during a dyno is way cooler than going down the track, or the hwy. 210F is way cooler than what is actually comeing in the engine bay while driving, most engine esp. the SVT mod. ZTEC runs on avg. at 215F norm operation, and the thermostat will open ruffly about 190-215. Coffe. i applaud your efferts big time and those are some great numbers...oh and usaly the hood would be closed once your veh. is at its final tune. [nutkick] oh i might be a rookie on here but im not to test and tuned foci i have built several and now have owned 5 all diff yr modles, 2000-2004

But what you posted is only proof why sitting on the dyno , hood up and cool air blowing on it , so what you showed wasent what one works best/best performance under normal conditions and thats why I posted , I have done this test years ago and know what a Diff it makes under normal conditions

By the way what is wrong with putting a fan in front of the car for the dyno ? Is moving air not a factor while driving? .
Nothing wrong with it , does the air move through the Raid with the fan like it would at 30 to 90MPH , no , my guess it was one of the HUGH round fans that moves maybe 7 to 12 MPH air and that air is cooler then out side in the sun let alone the radient heat from the road , Not many things rob performance like HEAT

and why do you so often and desperately need to jump in and discredit people and if they're not getting tuned by you and feeding your wallet which i've seen you do quite a bit? Not everyone wants a "tom's tune & turbo.
Nothing desperate about me posting where things are not correct and I didnt discredit you but the method of the testing done , My wallet is fine and I dont need everyone to tune with me and that has nothing to do with it , never said one thing about getting my tune or a turbo so grow up maybe you will learn something

respect for doin your own tests man. [headbang]

Who cares if hood is open or not? At 90mph there's TONS of air under the hood, all three tests were done the same way, and you can't exactly go zooming down the strip with a dyno machine in the back seat now can you? Moot point, Tom.

What DOES stand out to me though is the big difference in AFR between the three, which says to me that the only tuning done was with the CAI, and then you ran the other two tests without tuning for them. That's what makes this comparison somewhat unreliable. The green (I'm guessing this is with the airbox removed) and red (CAI) lines are practically the same above 65mph where the AFRs are mostly the same. Torque is higher for the CAI because the AFRs are different below 65mph where the torque lines diverge, and the only reason you see a 5hp gain with the CAI is because the tuner didn't crop out the little jump in the graph when he let off the gas at redline.

Bottom line: inconclusive. The CAI is what you tuned for, so that's where you made the numbers.
