I had an escort with no arm rest it was a nightmare. I found that I'd put my elbow against the passenger seat to get comfy. But now in my zx3 I've got a really comfy arm rest, unless I'm shifting fast. If I put it up I can't even shift, I'm six one and have to have the set one click from all the way back( so I've got a three seater), but I would by no means take it out I depend to heavily on that 6"x10" piece of factory vinyl( or what ever ford uses)

you know, the armrest gets in the way of "other things" as well. guys... YOU know what i'm talkin about! lol. (think... PASSENGER... DRIVER... interaction... lol).
driving stick gets in the way of that don't blame it on the arm rest

It definetly does Solaris. Anytime my girl wants to get it on we jump in the back. Id say for a 2 door hatch there's plenty of room back there. I just push the seats all the way up and lean them forward. I definetly like the back better for those times anyway. The front seems too crammed for any action. You have the steering wheel popping out and the brake handle sticking up jabbing ya and the shifter sitting there waiting to get smacked. Shit to beat that just put that back seat down and basically have a bed. lol. Just get your **** on. Oh ya and i dont have a arm rest and i dont find a need for one. 03' SVT

Armrest

I've a 2002 ZX3 with 5-speed. Am 6'4", did not like the center armrest from the getgo. So, I removed the armrest part of it. At the rear of the armrest itself is a little "door" you can pry open to access two Phillips screws which will allow you to remove the entire armrest. I just put black masking tape over the rectangular opening left from where the armrest attached to the console itself. This allowed lots of clearance for my arm in shifting.

Lived with that for about a year, then bought the "base" ZX3 console without armrest from a local Ford dealer; about $100 for the piece, but now it looks nice and clean, as it should, with no masking tape over part of the original armest-based console. So, if you want to spend some $ for the "base" ZX3 console, check with your dealer. Easy to remove armrest console and stick in the new "base" one. A few screws and carefully unclipping and reclipping the shift and parking brake boots, and you're done. I'll sell my armrest console through something we have here in Mass. called The WantAdvertiser to some guy who wants to replace his "base" console with mine! It's all about personal taste, I 'spose!!! But, seriously, for me, it is a breeze now to shift, etc. Never have been a big center console guy; if I want to rest my right arm, I'll do it in my comfy TV chair with a brew!

I myself like the armrest. The only question is if I will still like after I install the Steeda Tri-Ax shifter I plan on ordering soon. I guess time will tell.

i thought u meant while driving eh u can work around it

while driving? i have to shift, and press the clutch and everything. Maybe cruising down the highway while set on cruise?

I'm glad my car didn't come with a center arm rest...they interfere with putting my hand on my female passengers' thighs. I just hang onto the e-brake when I am by myself or with a male passenger. I'd like an "oh, $hit!" bar on my passenger side dash, so people will quit getting fingerprints on my clean dash board!!
