Armrest
I've a 2002 ZX3 with 5-speed. Am 6'4", did not like the center armrest from the getgo. So, I removed the armrest part of it. At the rear of the armrest itself is a little "door" you can pry open to access two Phillips screws which will allow you to remove the entire armrest. I just put black masking tape over the rectangular opening left from where the armrest attached to the console itself. This allowed lots of clearance for my arm in shifting.
Lived with that for about a year, then bought the "base" ZX3 console without armrest from a local Ford dealer; about $100 for the piece, but now it looks nice and clean, as it should, with no masking tape over part of the original armest-based console. So, if you want to spend some $ for the "base" ZX3 console, check with your dealer. Easy to remove armrest console and stick in the new "base" one. A few screws and carefully unclipping and reclipping the shift and parking brake boots, and you're done. I'll sell my armrest console through something we have here in Mass. called The WantAdvertiser to some guy who wants to replace his "base" console with mine! It's all about personal taste, I 'spose!!! But, seriously, for me, it is a breeze now to shift, etc. Never have been a big center console guy; if I want to rest my right arm, I'll do it in my comfy TV chair with a brew!
