whyme, I need to get another full motor and trans. so when it comes time to get the car checked and somged (i have a feeling im about to take a new job in cali or in a part of Az that does smog, and for a back up). that set up will be started as soon as the exterior is done. the F2 wide body kit is on order, the headlights still need to be blacked out with halos installed and im working on seeing if i can put retrofit some BMW projectors in the housing for HID.ned to do some searchnig on the fog lights and LED light breadbords.. I still need to see if I can get the F2 lip done in CF. and other exterior stuff.. but i will keep every one on the up and up for whats happening. Im going to keep the stock motor in and build the second motor from the ground up.

Fast_Focus- From what i see i just might have to do that. not to many other 05+ ZX3 DURATEC 2.3's out there i take it. more parts to choose from im guessing too.

I still have alot to learn so I cant rush into any thing. I dont want to do the same job twice because i was a bone head and got the wrong part or because it wasnt done right.

many of the 2.0 parts are the same as the 2.3 but really if your gonna do a full build not swapping to a 2.3 is a real loss. if you look at the hp/$ ratio the swap is a real bargen when your buying all the other stuff anyway and the power and torque out put will be noticably better.

i forgot, if you decide to stay 2.0 you can get a forged crank, i havent found it myself but a few of the guys over in Europe said that there is a lot more 2.0 stuff at that end of the world but the price aint cheep.

yea 2.3 swap FTW! I am planning on having the 2.3 and a stg2 FS turbo mid summer next year... and u are right there aren't many 05+ zx3 with the 2.3... of course there aren't many 07 ZX4 SEs with the 2.3 [;)]

and u are right about the 2.3 having more power... but the TORQUE is what ur gonna notice! long stroke FTW!!!

Im not getting far in the search in the 2.0 stuff from over seas. And i totally get the B&S. my 1.7 is B&S to 2.2 hehe a hidden bonus when all you can see is the motor code as a B17 when it should say B22 on my teggy.. LOL SUCKA!

Well I seems I need to rethink things, reason for putting my ideas out here. my question to you all is which one of ya would know about the ECU conversion then, or will I need one if the harness is a plug and play between the 2.0 and 2.2 non PZEV. If so then it should be pull motor drop new one in plug it all in and play. unless the shift linkage is all fricking jacked up. then I have to convert it with the 2.0 (worse case).

form the info i got from walter and a few others on FJ since the only differance between the engines is the deck hight and the harness will plug right in all that is needed is a retune on the ecu.

actually, u can run a 2.3 with a 2.0 ECU... it just wont run like it should... tune would make it run like a 2.3

I've seen this asked a couple times here. Why go through all those mods, when you could just add the turbo or supercharger and get the same results? I am curious, because I've had a couple people mention the ford racing s/c as a good option. Is it?[?]

because the mods help that much more. a turbo set up thru focus sport comes with a cai and a sct xcal2 flasher. but you still have exhaust to consider.

Ok. How about the ford racing supercharger. I know they include a reflash of stock chip. Heard anything else about them? And I do have the exhaust taken care of already. Thanks for any info.[thumb]

the SC wont work for the duratec motor so its not an option for your car. u only have all motor or turbo. some people like myself would rather have a 200 hp NA then a 200 hp turbo car
I just got off the phone with Ford, and I believe he just found out the same thing. The SC is only for the Zetec motor. And thanks for the insight on preferences. I can certainly appreciate your point of view.

yeah, im not a turbo fan. i always liked superchargers. if they made one for the duratec i would have it now. so, looks like if you want boost your going turbo.

turbo is the way to go... I dont have it but there is a guy with a 2003 zx3 2.3 PZEV here in Texas who is pushing ~300whp with a FocusSport turbo... it's uber fast!

and the whole point of putting the 2.3 is because of the longer stroke! more torque FTW! u can find 2.3 blocks pretty cheap... everything on a 2.0 bolts right up... but if u plan on anything like a turbo, I would suggest getting built internals if ur gonna swap motors...

yeah, turbos are nice in the sense that they arent belt driven like a supercharger. but i like the instant resopnse of a supercharger.

do u also like the heatsoak on longer drives?if u dont live close to a track u need to be there 3 hours early or trailer it... another bad thing about s/c is they have redlines... there is a limit to how much power u can make out of it... turbos can just add more and more!

I am building a 2.3L ranger engine to get over 200whp. With the right tune Walter Marcy says it will be over 200HP on 92-93 fuel. I have a ported head with stock valves, 11.6 pistons with Eagle rods, stage 2 crane cams, and the Stage 2 Cosworth intake and exhaust headers. We polished the crank - no HP gain. With a 4.06 gear we have trackion problems already in 1st gear but this has been a long time dream and can't wait to run this engine.

Sounds very close to my engine. Very fun to drive.
