ok i been wondering. i just saw that alot of people have 2.0 duratecs so thats what i assumed mine was. well i realize that all the 2.0 cars i race, i eat alive. no problem. and my car is stock as hell and i kept up with a gti golf with a ton of mods. so im kinda wondering if i have the 2.3? How do i find out?
2.0 or 2.3? help!

since you have an 07, unless you have a sedan and have the ST trim, you do not have the 2.3. The ST sedan is the only focus 05+ that has a 2.3 liter. FOci had a 2.0 zetec until 2004 and some had a optional 2.3 pzev duratec in green states. In 05, they did away with the zetec for price reasons and made the 2.0 a duratec as well. Pre 05 foci also cmae with a SPI engine that had like 100 horses or something. The 2.0 zetec has 135 horses, the SVT duratec has 170 horses, the pzev duratec(pre05) had 145 horses, and the 05+ 2.0 has 135 horses, and the 2.3 (05+) has 151 horses.
Oh, and looking at the fact you have a ZX3, you do infact have a 2.0 duratec good for 135 horses stock.

well I can't say I don't believe him that he kept up with a VW golf. But chances are it was a 2.0, not a 1.8t or 2.8 V6. The 2.0 VW is slow as sin. Even with a CAI, it pulls a scant 9 second 0 to 60. You have to shift at 23 MPH in first, 43 in second and it hardly gets to 60 in third. I know this becaus I drove a 2.0 Jetta for a little while. I got smoked by stock Civic EX's...and barely was able to beat a 1.6 litre 1994 DX civic.
A 1.8t with ANY mods will have little trouble beating an SVT and a 2.3 duratec. the V6 model can take both these cars in stock form.
edit: 4 - 12" subwoofer's are definitely not going to help either!

but he said GTI Golf, which is 209hp and around 200tq I believe. Plus if it was a DSG....oooohoo....and they don't make Golfs in V6 2.8L. VR6 yes, but I doubt they are 2.8L either.
Golfs are 400 (or was it 600?) pounds heavier than Focis, but what they don't have in weight, they make up with horses and torqs.
Rabbits are slow, but I wouldn't go against one in my Focus either. It still rips compared to Focus.

and I'm being completely in the middle here. Not much on VWs side, but not on Fords either. One is good at something and the other one is at something else.

Weight and tranny type can make a big difference. My 07 Focus (2.0 Duratec) is much faster than my 05 Escape (2.3 Duratec). The Focus has a stick and is 600lbs lighter. It wouldn't overcome a 50+hp difference.

yah, but if somebody does the power to weight ratios, they will find that 2700 lbs @ 135 HP is not going to be enough for 3000 lbs @ 180 - 205 hp.
that's 20 lbs/hp for the focus & 15 - 16 lbs/hp for the VW.
no chance.

precisely! THat's when the horsepower kicks in. You have enough torque to get you going through first and second nicely, but when third rolls around, the lack of higher revving horsepower will not "keep you there". I LOVE high revving horsepower.

i never said i outran him, the back of his driver side door bas matched with the front of my bumper. he had a full catback exhaust, lowered, and cai. mine is stock without a tach and i was up with him all the time through 4th gear then we slowed down. he even admitted i would have probably beat him if i had a tach, and it was a gti because the back said gti hehe but yea it made me feel good. i didnt think i would stand a chance until i kept up with him like that
OK first off whoever said only zx3's in 03 and 04 had 2.3s is WRONG.
I have an SE sedan it has a pZEV 2.3
Secondly, I highly doubt it was a 1.8t gti golf, any other one I can believe, but NOT a 1.8t. I have beaten on EVERY focus while completely stock with my PZEV engine, but a golf WHOOPED MY BUTT! when he hit boost.
Third and final, a tach means absoultely nothing! if you're saying you have a manual without a tach, and didn't know when to shift, thats horse too because you don't need a tach to know when to shift. I have an automatic, no tach and I play with it like a manual. I know by speed when to shift, by feel when to shift, and driving a manual, you should DEFINETELY know when/when not to shift...
I'm not hating by any means, just trying to get some facts straight.
*EDIT* after re-reading turbovations post he stated "ZX3's" in 2003/04, thought he meant they were the only cars with them...

u must not have raced any of the foci tom has,,,lol,,,,,toms got a focus and i believe its somewhere around 760 whp....and all his others are turbo foci to i believe and i seen alot of foci's in nc with turbos...ure 2.3 might be quick,,,but deffinatly not going to beat them all...exspecially stock,,,excuse me if u meant only stock foci's

Maybe the dude just had a GTI badge on his 2.0 car. I can see a focus burning a 2.0 with no trouble. A 1.8t and VR6 would smoke a 2.0 duratec. I am not saying I don't believe you that you won, but unless he's got a blown turbo or is running on 4 cylindars in the VR6, he will beat you 10 times out of 10.
