in all honesty, probably not. If you're used to using motorcraft syn. just continue using it.

another oil question. . .I live in Ohio, and I am planning to move to Mobil1 synthetic. (just got the car, not sure what they were putting in before) Anything I need to worry about before changing over. The cars got 28K on it, so the engine is broken in for sure.

also, Lately we've been at 90 degrees here. But in the winter, it can get to under 0. So i've kind of got a varying climate. Should I run 5W-30 in summer, and 10W-30 in winter?

None of you guys have duratecs huh..... the oil for duras is 5w20, which is hard as hell to find! Right now I am using castrol syntec, but if I can find some mobil or rp in 5w20 that is what I am using in my next change.

Ummm, i have a Dura. I just changed mine 2 days ago. I used Castrol GTX oil (10W30) and a FRAM Toughgaurd Filter (filter has that anti-drainback valve in it) Am I using the right oil or should I switch to 5W20 instead???

I've been running 5w-30 all year round here for the life (just under 40,000 right now) of the car.
Lows can be down to -20 to -25°F in the winter, and 100°+ at times in the summer.
Whatever you do, DON'T run 10w-30 in the winter. [nono]
That's heavier than the 5w-30...completely opposite of what you want.

As far as the two Duratec owners, you might ask your questions in the Duratec forums...
This is the SVT forum area. [;)]

ah. ok WD40, i was wrong there. My thinking was different oils for the cold and hot weather, and i didn't really think about which i would run if i did do that. I MEANT to say, 10W-30 in summer, and 5W-30 in the winter. .but since you've ran 5w-30 in a similiar climate to me, then i'll stick with the 5W-30. More than likely Mobil1. And everyone's changing at 5K huh. . .I thought Mobil was guarunteed protection to 15K. I had planned on changing every 10K. I'm not running the car real hard, and will probably run a few autoX events during the season.

WD40, am I going to get another [nono] here? haha.
thanks

Yeah, I don't know about 15,000 mile oil...no thanks.
I'd just use the standard Mobil-1 fully synthetic which is good for 5,000 miles.
The "Extended Performance" is the type that's rated for 15,000.

I change my oil somewhere between 4,000 and 5,000, trying to stay closer to 4,000 if I can.

FWIW, once I switched to the fully synthetic oil at around 8,000 miles,
I ran a few intervals with Mobil-1, but have been running Royal Purple ever since.

I was just going to wait until 10,000 miles to do the oil change. I will take a look at my oil and see if it is dirty or not.

I tried the 15k stuff and my oil was dirty at 5k so I just changed it then.
Oil is supposed to become "dirty". All modern oil has detergent properties and it changes appearance when subjected to the heat of an engine. You really cannot judge the state of motor oil by appearance. If anyone is interested in extended drain intervals, I'd suggest looking

I think you may find this information enlightening.

tough sometimes because I don't have a garage here. . i can always go home, but it's tough sometimes. plus laws prohibit you from changing oil on public property. . .I'll look more into those links. thanks guys.
