Gas milage went up, but I still have a shitty Hypnotics tune.
So why dont you ask him for a better one? If your car was tuned by him based on info you gave him with a bad fuel filter... (info on how the car was running). The tune may not be optimal for your car anymore. As I make changes to my car I get updated tunes from him after datalogging and the tunes get better and better.

^^^Pull the relay, not the fuse.
RL-7 is the fuel pump relay...under the hood in the fuse/relay box.
There's a diagram underneath the cover that shows where it is.

As noted in my Escape write up (linked in earlier post), pull the relay before starting up,
and position back in place just enough to make contact so the engine will start.
Once it's running, then pull it. (by having it loose, it'll be much easier to remove it)

I didn't pull the fuse- I pulled the "fuel pump module" plug. It is underneathe the passenger side rear seat cushion. It would have been easier to get the fuse but Ford decided it would be a good idea to not label the damn things underneathe the hood >:/

Aside form that the filter was extremely easy to change! I was very suprise but be careful of those plastic clips that hold the lines on- they are very fragile!!!

So WD you're saying to pull it while it's running and stall the car out?
Yep.
Different vehicle, but same procedure:
http://www.supermotors.org/vehicles/registry/detail.php?id=2542&s=24575#content
(click on pics for text/instructions)

Now, another link I posted lists a little different method:
http://www.myfordfocus.com/how-to/fuelfilter.htm
1. Remove the fuel pump fuse.
2. Start the engine and allow to idle until the engine stalls.
3. Crank the engine for approximately five seconds to make sure the fuel injection supply manifold pressure has been released.
4. Install the fuel pump fuse.

When I tried the above on our Escape, the engine wouldn't fire up with the fuse pulled,
in order to relieve the pressure in the line.
When I read in the Haynes (Escape) manual, it said to pull the relay with the engine running.
Worked like a charm.

I pulled the fuse and ran mine till it died. I still took a gasoline shower :-(

You disconnected the filter from the mount? (8mm bolt IIRC)
Got the clips out?
The hoses won't come off the filter?
^^^If so, use a small flat blade screwdriver, and gently try to pry the hoses off.

I'm going to be doing mine this evening.
Don't know if I'll have time to take pics for a proper write up though...
I've also got that pesky windshield washer problem to try and fix this evening too.

Well for whatever reason the clamp around the filter, and that bolt that holds it together just weren't letting go, after a good 30 mins soak in PB though it worked. The job is done now. I'll find out if it runs different tonight. Thanks again.

hypnotics tune = shitty?

Thats faul, and you shouldn't be allow to have it anymore after talking out of your a hole like that.
8 bucks was your problem, not the tune, shouldn't you be appologizing by now, or even making a great write up of how the fuel filter plays a big role in having a great tune work even greater?

So that's what it is....
I have a bad surge (like multiple hickups) especially when I hit 5500rpm (DSI kicking in)
Thanks once again for clearing up the problem and saving me, and Wayne the time of talking about it over the phone.
Can't wait to reap the benefits of the smoother\harder acceleration and increased mpg's. (probably not in that order :D)
BTW, my car has now 59k, and I highly doubt that it has ever been changed, should make things that much better.
Should do it this week if I can find it @ a local store.
I'll take pictures of the filter if I'm lucky to have a disgustingly fudge packed model, so that everyone can feel self-conscious about theirs and change it during these lovely summer gas prices...
