oil change

Oil is the life blood of the engine, you could ask this question to 100 people and get 100 different answers, it depends on several factors. The type of journeys that you do, eg 50 one mile journeys to work and back will cause alot more contamination of your oil than 5 ten mile runs, colder oil causes more wear and a cold engine doesn't burn as efficiently. The size and quality of the oil filter is also a factor (the V6 probe with the Mitsubishi engine being a perfect example of an undersized filter). Finally the quality of the oil. Myself I change the oil about every 4000 miles which is about a years worth of driving for me. Take out the dip stick a week or two after an oil change and wipe it onto your thumb, smell it a rub it between your fingers this should familiarise you with how the oil should be then when you notice a change in colour and smell ( do this when cold ) it's time to change it. Remember if in doubt changing early is never going to be bad for your car and your engine will last longer.

Every time I try to post pics , I upload from my computer into current attachments then close the window to go back to the message and get redirected to a blank tab, so don't seem to be able to do it on my phone but there is one photo on my profile and some in the gallery.

My '12 4Runner takes full synthetic 0W20, and the manual calls for 10k intervals. But I get it changed every 5k anyway. You guys have a turbo to take care of, so that oil should be changed no later then 5k.

I do every 5K miles, keep in mind the turbo uses the same oil and spools at 200k rpm. My dealership even recommended me to not go over 5k miles without an oil change. My last turbo car i changed every 3k miles but it did not use synthetic oil.
