I am looking to purchase a low profile jack for doing oil changes and was looking at recommendations in the $150 range. Show me what you got. Thanks!

Check out www.harborfreight.com . They have a regular 3 ton floor jack for $79.99 and a
3 ton low profile floor jack for $89.99 (plus s&h). I have the regular floor jack and, most of the time, use a piece of 2X4 about 5" long with a 3/8" wide groove about 1/2" deep sawed into the 2X4 to fit the lips where the rocker panel and floor are welded together (at the production jack lift points). I have a cheaper 2 ton floor jack that I use with the 3 ton to jack up one side of the car to rotate tires. I use a second piece of 2X4. The 2 ton floor jacks are $29.99.

I purchased either the 3ton or 2 1/4? Craftsman with the 2 jackstands almost 10 years ago and served me well. I had to purchase another set since I moved out of state almost 3 years ago and both it and the stands are holding up well??? I've never heard any of those bad "reviews".

if you look on sears website and check out the craftsman jacks.. there were a bunch of bad reviews on them and for the high cost of the jack i just didn't want to deal with the aggrivation

I use a Duralast 1.5 ton low profile aluminum jack on lowered cars

A standard 3 ton steel jack for pretty much everything else

and I also have a 2.5 ton high lift jack... made for use on SUV's

..... and if all else fails I have a 10,000 pound 4 post lift in the garage as well.

I have a monster 2 1/2 ton jack from years ago that kills my back when lifting in and out of the hatch when at the track, so I finally bit the bullet and bought an El Cheapo aluminum jack...but it's a damn good design as far as reaching under a lowered SVT (Spec Focus suspension):

HarborFreight item 92782

The low, curved side plates of the jack frame allow you to center the jack on the side skirt joint (below the front edge of the front door, just behind the front wheels), push the jack all the way in and just reach a perfect jacking point on the box section of the unibody. I haven't tried going in under the front or back bumpers, but I use it mostly for swapping tires on one side of the car...ramps are my preference for simple stuff like oil changes. [race]

I bought this one from a local auto parts store two years ago when I lowered the car:

paid $65 for it
