Tire recommendations?

I have a 2013 Focus titanium with the factory 235/40/18 Michelin tires, from the factory & I'm due for tires.

Should I get the same make/model tires that the car came with?

Is there something cheaper that will get me better mileage?

My car has only 22k miles, tires are rotated during every service by Ford, yet they are already worn out.

Is tirerack the best place to order them online? Any other shops, or just a local tire shop?

Thanks everyone![emoji1303]

There are many excellent choices for your Focus depending on what you are looking for in a tire. Here is a link to the tires we carry in 235/40R-18 along with customer reviews:

I've replaced the tires on my 13 Focus twice already; mine came with the Continental ContactPro, a not so great tire, (as OEM), replaced them at 22K, with Michelin MXMV4, (the Premier wasn't offered yet in a 215 50 17) and replaced those at 63K due to road hazard issues (one tire had been patched 4 times!). A local tyre shop had suggested Continental Pure Contact and its a nice tyre. Fuel economy up by 3 mpg highway over the Michelin and unlike the Contact Pro, its about as quiet as the Michelin.

Keep in mind that the Michelin you have is a ZR rated tyre, so tyre wear is going to be quick and fast regardless of which brand of tyre you purchase. I've had Pirelli P7, Continental DWS and Michelin MXMV4 on my MK1 vehicles.

If you want to keep the handling and performance about the same as you have experienced thus far, then you'll probably need to purchase a tyre that has the same speed reading as your current Michelin tyres. The Continental Pure Contact I have are V rated tyres, which match the MXMV4's previously, but the stock tyres were only "H" speed rated tyres. As you move up in cornering/speed rating, the tyres grip the pavement better, so the tyres wear out faster. An "ECO" type tyre may not give you the handling you have become used to on your current tyres, though, they should last you a lot more miles. See if you can purchase some tyres on an exchange or trial period; this will give an idea if "trading down" to a lower speed rated tyre (or an ECO) is acceptable to you.
