Alright so I know we all love our Duratecs to death but there have to be little quirks here and there that we all love to hate as well. Like

-The ratsnest of wires under there

or

-How absolutely effing impossible it is to get at the slave bleeder nipple...

I dont like the fact that the front cover bolts to the side of the pan. So when you pull the pan you have th wedge it back in. They could have cut it off flat, extended the pan over more and had the pan bolt to the bottom of it.

I only have a handful of "issues" with the Duratec:

1) As someone stated earlier, the infamous "rats nest" of wiring in the engine bay, (but I did rectify that).

2) I hate how temp. sensistive the motor is. I mean when its nice and cool the engine pulls like a beast..! But when the ambient temp. starts getting hot, the engine just seems to bog more than I would like...

3) Both the valve train and injectors could be a little less noisy....

thw wiring mess, UDP pulley install, no supercharger, weak stock rods and weenie valvesprings

#14 ·
dont forget weak ass rods

Pros:
Amazing power from simple bolt ons
no replacement for displacement?
flow-through design
timing chain

have a nice day [:)]

"amazing" power? i wouldnt go that far.
boost = replacement for displacement
broken timing belt = $20
broken timing chain = $fortune
zetec = easy to mechanic on
dtec = pita to mechanic on
zetec = mods are cheap
dtec = mods cost more

both engines have pros and cons but ill take the weaker more moddable cheaper zetec than the duratec.
have a nice day!

whatever you LOVE yours now and will LOOOOOOVE it once you get the tune

christian's just upset that he has a 2.0 AND the square front...

#23 ·
-hole for auto tranny replacement is way to small/impossible to do tq converter nuts through :/ Had to take oil pan off

-manicat

-egr system

-timing chain cover annoying as hell to get off to do maintenance like cams/internals/head

-Ratnest FTL

torque ftw

ST > SVT according to the Challenge...oh well i like the SVT better because it is sexier however i am biased because i own the former (more or less)

Zetec is a real engine, Duratec is a rebadge jap. engine

#30 ·
^^also these "modded" dtecs make as much whp as your svt makes at the flywheel...good luck getting that N/A at the wheels with 2 or 3 bolt-ons...

#33 ·
those mods for that dtec also cost as much as a small country. a cossie intake alone is so expensive its not even funny. not to mention your talkin about a 2.3 dtec. not a 2.0. for the cost of full boltons for a 2.3 dtec you can turbo a svt and walk a dtec. not to mention i havent seen too many 350+whp dtecs wandering around here... svt's on the other hand...

zetec engine bays look 10 times better
zetec is easier to work on
zetec replacement engine is way cheaper
zetec parts are way cheaper
zetec has way more aftermarket behind it
zetec has has both turbo and supercharger applications
zetec is reliable
zetec isnt impossible to find in a junkyard
zetec cars can be purchased for dirt cheap these days
zetec has available getrag 6 speed
zetec head isnt bass ackwards
dtec makes as much hp modded as svt zetec does stock

1 out of 13 aint bad...
and yes a zetec will turn 8000rpm although there is no need to spin one that fast because max tq has been reached by 2200rpm.

calm down guys im jest jerkin yalls chains. i like the dtec too, they are good engines. i just prefer zetecs. they fit my budget better

#34 ·
its not, its just fun poking at the dtec guys some times. they do it to us too so its all in good fun. so calm down itll be alright in the mornin.

#35 ·
^^ hmm, I love folks that really don't know what they are talking about. :)

#36 ·
im joking dude. just getting a rise out of yall. this is a dtec hate thread started by dtec owners so point the finger elsewhere. you dtec guys are too uptight.
