Hey all, i am going to install a new autometer tach in my 05 duratec zx3, and i searched on the forum and i found out "squatch" said something about pin 48 in the ECU for the car being a good signal for the tach pulse, so i wouldnt have to spend another 70$ and wait a few more days for the tach to be installed.

but squatsh also said he didnt know if it had worked with the duratec's. im wondering if anyone has done this or has any information on it?!?!?

thanks! and if no one knows, i might just try it anyways and hope for the best, and then post my results, but i want to know if i do it right that i wont hurt anything on my new car. [???:)]

thanks all for any and all info!

i found some REALLY helpful information, i know its a link to another Foci form, but i googled it and its very helpful!

On there, the 3rd person on the reply has helpful info, and i just did that on my car, so that shows the car in its stock form is capable to display or give out the car's RPM.....

also when i tested this, its was kinda strange, but when i released the brake when i was idiling @ a stop sign, the RPM's jumped from roughly 750 straight up to about 880, which is kinda cool, it shows the ECU was getting the engine ready for a launch. and im glad i did this test, b/c i shifted like i shifted on the way to work, kinda winding the engine out and i only hit about 3,200 RPM's so i was glad im not shifting higher than that.

any other help will still be appriciated for me and the other noobs!

That is NOT a tach signal your seeing bud, with the digital tach.

Sorry

That is pure computer info coming over the (is it OBDII or CANBus) system that your cluster is smart enough to decode. There is NOT a tach signal anywhere on the harness for the Duratec. You need to swap clusters or use that tach driver.

yeah, i started to think about the OBD port info area too after i looked @ it. ah well..... i just ordered the tach driver from summit racing.... saved roughly $25 for shopping around while i was also scouting around for help on the forums.

thanks all! i hope this thread will continue and/or help any other noobs with the duratecs.

:EDIT: if your lookin for a brand new tach driver for a tach install..... Summit racing seems to have the best price for it. $58 bux. and i saw other places approaching 3-digits. and sinse i ordered my tach from summit this will hopefully be all hooked up on saturday night, b/c ill be receiving my tach tomorrow, and sinse its after 6pm EST now ill get my driver on saturday [:(]
but it'll give me and my dad time to read up on the intructions for the tach and i can study the picture and info posted above

So guys, where's the wires in the picture above that you need to connect the tach driver to?

well, tomorrow night my dad and i will be plunging into putting my new tach on my car. its going to go on the a-pillar, best spot so its not really on my dash causing a clutter, plus also if someone purchases my car in a couple of years and they for some reason dont want the tach they just have to buy a new plastic a-pillar cover. my ford racing tach driver is coming in tomorrow so i am going to hopefully get everything good to go tomorrow night........ *fingers crossed*

ALSO, sinse i have not found it yet, i will post a new thread with pictures of my install, sinse there seems to be alot of confusion on this. so wish me luck!

I know exactly how you feel it took me awhile to intall the tach adapter, in the picture you dont really see it but the shilded black wire, it looks like a wire protecter its made of plastic and could be wrapped in tape, it goes to the crank you have to cut it open then inside you will see a red/brown wire and a red/white it might be kinda lite you could call it pink, splice into those wires with the tach wires. been working for me ever since if you need more help email me or pm me.
