Have you got all the recalls done on the car? Sounds like possibly the fuel pump, as that recall flowed into the 2001 model year also. Something to check out..........

oh ok... had to read down... I was like wtf!? his car isnt overheating... lol

 

vacuum leak?

 

clogged fuel/air filter? fuel pump going bad? tps sensor maybe(thats a longshot)

 

Make sure you change the fuel filter if you have not yet... Mine was filthy at 40k and I just did it again at 70k, and it was pretty dirty. Do that first before you chase any other options!

 

yea a bad fuel filter can mess up a lot of things... even worse, a bad fuel pump... I was driving my moms buick to the ford dealership to get shifter cables for my car and I pulled up everything was fine... when I went outside, the car started but was struggling bad.... the damn fuel pump went out right in front of the dealer ship, so my dad had to bring the flat bed and we loaded it up... $300... ridiculous... ok now back to the foci... lol

 

isn't the fuel filter located near or in the gas tank? I remember reading something strange about the filter location on the 01' ZX3. It has a K/N airbox replacement filter along w/ the plugs/wires I just did a month ago. So now my question is, how do I change the fuel filter? Has anyone had problem's with clogged/dirty injectors? I had just learned how to do all basic mechanical work on my srt-4 acr and then had to get rid of it. Time to learn a new car ... I love the turning radius of my ZX3 ... the srt-4 had turning radius like a bus. Thanks for the help so far guys

 

no prob... we are here to help... I believe ur fuel filter is under ur rear seat... I know that's where I was told it was... h/o... let me search through my focus manual...

 

well I DID have a focus manual... I guess I chumnked it when I got the new car... lol... anyways, just check under the rear seat...

 

sounds like either a vacuum leak or a slow responding IAC(idle air control) valve. My focus is doing the same thing just not stalling, the idle will dip real low and then surge up. I ordered my IAC valve from my dealership and they said they were on back order due to an unexpected over sea demand and that was about 3 weeks ago. not sure if the standard zx3 uses the same IAC valve as the svt does but if they do dont expect to be able to get an oem one.
