I was looking into getting stage 2 crowers for my svtf, and was wondering if I needed to buy anything else like springs and retainers?? And I have 170k miles on it, should I rebuild first before doing this?

Best first mod and I am sure most will agree is a tune

I sell the SCT LiveWire Flasher (cant use the newer xcal3) for 509.00 shipped and that comes with a full custom tune and FREE tune updates as you add more NA mods ,

I also offer the service of taking over you laptop and setting up the datalog list and doing the first datalog like I was sitting in the car with you as well as any future issues you may have there is no charge for checking datalogs even if it isnt tune related

i was thinking about the tune, but wanted to see if i could get cams before tuning it, since i already have most of the bolt ons from c-f-m, but i guess it better to just tune it for now! thanks for the help guys!

I just got the Livewire from Tom and it's freakin great.

It's also going to give you the most noticeable difference in performance and overall driveability. And free NA mod-related updates for life is hard to beat.

^^^yeah, i was thinking of reflashing the ECU, but wanted to see if i could build the motor some more before i get into tunning it, but its just too expensive for me right now , but looks like thats the only thing i can do for now! thanks for the advice!

Do some searching....there's a LOT of info already out there on these forums. In case you don't feel like searching, I'll get you started with some info:

The reflash is ~$400, but don't quote me on it. Talk to Tom for exact pricing...

The header/cat/exhaust is a pretty decent bottleneck (well, really just the header and cat, but a cat back makes it sound nicer...). The SVT header is (or was the last I looked into it) the best header for your money.

Just keep in mind, that these aren't really N/A beasts. You aren't going to get a LOT of power out of it. Some of the highest N/A numbers I've seen are around 200 whp, and that's with a LOT of work...

i'm just looking to make around 170 or 180 whp and ill be happy with it and i don't want to do pistons. i want a good set of cams and all the basic add ons and thats about it just see what kind of cam and header you guys would go with i want to know what header and cams make the most power. and oh yeah i have a k&n drop in intake should i upgrade it or no.

lol...aren't we all?

Realistically, without major work, you won't see that to the wheels. As mentioned though, these cars aren't really all about peak power. I'd start with the tune, header and catback (along with some suspension work, as well as new bushings everywhere you feel capable of replacing them).

And to answer someone's questions above, I'm not sure if anyone in the states went over 200whp, but the Zetec has been around Europe forever. I KNOW they have gone north of 200whp across the pond...

Cat or Caterham Cams are more aggressive, but as stated they are super expensive and are a lot of work to get them to work properly in the car.

Other than that, the SVT Cams are equivalent to a Stage 4 Cam for the standard Zetec engines. No one else has better cams for the SVT other than the Cat Cams.

A Tune would be your best option.

Now if you are thinking about opening up the cylinders some, looking into ITBs, getting some steel valves and stronger cylinders ... then sure get the cams. But if you are only wanting to get more HP for N/A without spending much money, forget the Cams.

Tune, CAI, Short-Throw, Dog-Mount, Stiffer Suspension and an ORP/HFC and you will be quite happy with the ride. It's not about HP with this car, it's about driveability and automotive course performance.

You should look into a local AutoX chapter. A join the fun as a stock ride before going nuts on mods.

The SVT Focus is a great stock ride for AutoX.

Takes alot of work to do that though.

The last person I heard that hit over 200whp, had to have some major internal engine work, the Cat Cams and ITBs from the caterhams as well.
