split vacuum hose

There's a vacuum hose that runs from the intake manifold up to a metal tube just below the air plenum. The one end that's attached to the manifold is most easily accessed from beneath the car. I have some questions.

1) There is a wierd looking hose clamp on the manifold end of the hose. I can see it only with an inspection mirror. How do I get it off? I had to cut the old hose off since both ends seem to be bonded to their mating receptacles. I am going to get a replacement hose from the dealer tomorrow.

2) I ran the car just long enough to get it into the garage...maybe 2-3 minutes worth. Of course the exhaust stunk and it ran like poop with no vacuum including no power brakes. Could any damage have occurred during that short a period? Of course I have a CEL.

Any insights? [paranoid]

It's not the pvc hose....I had changed the pvc last month. I went to the dealer and ordered the hose...costs just under $12. It's a formed hose with 3 bends. I still need to figger out how to get to the ring clamp at the intake. I could barely get the razor blade in there to cut the old hose off let alone any other type of tool.

Got it replaced! I also used a worm clamp. My arms are bruised, I'm bleeding in a few spots (I'm NO mechanic), but it's worth it...the car runs better than before which tells me that the hose has been a problem for a while 'till the vacuum opened up the thin spot to a full leak. This hose has nothing to do with the PVC valve unless there is more to the system than just the valve and hose hooked to it. I replaced the PVC valve last month. That was a snap compared to this other hose I just replaced. Thanks for your input!

I did some research on the hose that I replaced. It's related to the EGR system. The Fordparts website has it classified within the "EGR and related components" group of parts. The PCV and all the attachments are within the "Crankcase Ventilation System" group. My work on the hose at the intake manifold and its hose clamp was all done by feel from under the car...I couldn't see crap without an inspection mirror. That makes for some sore fingers.
