I have been looking around the net and there seems to be some chattering of Ford bringing both the SVT Focus back and an SVT version of the Fusion. How cool would that be. Apparently SVT's goal is to have five products on the market at any one time. So starting in the 2007 model year there could be SVT versions of Focus, Fusion, Mustang, Lightning, and Adrenaline. Anyone else hear the same? I had to sell my SVT for an Escape, family reasons, I have since bought the only option available in the ST Focus. I would love to be able to get back into a new SVT Focus[thumb] [thumb]

We are all patiently awaiting the return of the SVTF (hopefully with AWD and FI).

Chatter on the internet is probably just that. From the inside I haven't heard anything about a new svtF in a while. the last I heard was the turbo model and that was killed off.

As far as models go, the mustang is certain, fusion is extremely likely, the Lightning i'm not sure of, word is that it will be replaced outright by the Adrenaline. There is also some talk that the SVT brand may include nonford vehicles, a lincoln perhaps.

The only ones released for sure are the Mustang Shelby GT500 (Cobra) and the Adrenaline, the new Sport Trac. Everything else is just chatter and speculation. Even if they're working on something else it could be cancelled, like the Fusion version that is so rumored.

yeah i don't thionk they are going to do it... some magazines described the Svt focus as ( commericially unsucessful) they should have done F/I from the beginning and price it near the srt-4's but awell

god, I hope Ford doesn't screw up and allow the SVT name to go to non ford vehicles. Dodge did this with the SRT, and now every car daimlerchrysler makes has an SRT model, even the freakin minivan.

#9 ·
SRT was not a very strong brand though. they just kind of threw it on the table and ran with it. The SVT brand has been developing for more than a decade now.

Okay, mini-rant here, I can see by your join date that you're new here kmuise - but somewhat misleading thread titles like this drive long-timers nuts! I saw that thread title and went "holy crap, Ford actually decided to relaunch the SVT Focus?!" Only to click the link and realize it's another "I heard this/I read this rumor" type thread. These pop up every once in awhile, and have been doing so since Ford announced it would STOP selling the SVT Focus - in other words as soon as they stopped building it, the threads were already circulating saying "they'll build it again" and here it is June 2005 and people still won't give up on the idea that a new SVT Focus is right around the corner. I just wish people would more clearly label these threads, with something like "Possible Relaunch of SVT Focus?"

I read in motortrend that the svt division is talking about an sti and evo fighter, maybe a dituned 2007 euro focus rs powered by a Volvo designed engine with an inline six cylinder turbocharged and all wheeldrive, but inside of me I know ford will not do a product that can take marketshares from their pony car,but if they do it for 25g I think it will grab some wanted attention for ford products[:D]

this is so true. there is no sub 25k sports car in the ford lineup. I say no because nobody with a set of testes is going to be caught dead in a V6 mustang. build me an evo or a WRX fighter and make it look good from the factory. i don't even need a giant wing and a lavish interior. just make it go, turn, and stop like a bat out of hell, and make sure it doesn't break down once a month.

let's see if I can parts bin engineer a wrx fighter:

focus body and hardware,
modified floorpan
2.3L turbo'd,
volvo 6 speed with haldex AWD system

am I missing anything?

Well, SVT4ME, I apoligize. Thanks for the heads though. Although it is nice to see that we all share the same excitement for the "Possible Relaunch of SVT Focus". In the future if you want to rant to an individual, maybe it would have been more appropriate for a long time poster to send a PM to that individual.

The Volvo S40 T5 AWD is awesome. Test drove it and loved it! However, way too much money for what you get. I have to agree with some of the other posts though, and I don't think it would be I good idea to lend SVT badging to other brands. If Volvo wants to create a brand to compete with the M series or the AMG let them develop it using their resources.
Let SVT use the increased budget and manpower to re-stabilize the Ford nameplate and maybe draw back some of the import buyers.

No I don't think that would have been appropriate, because then no one gets the message except for you - the point is *anyone* reading this thread hopefully gets the hint that in the future if they want to post a thread like this perhaps they should word the title a little more carefully.

That is all. And as much I'd like to say when Ford introduces a new SVT Focus I'll eat my hat (because it's never going to happen), now I'm a little less confident about that - I just learned that Apple is switching to Intel processors after 21 years of avoiding Intel. And believe me, there are a lot of people out there right now eating hats because they never thought that would happen. So as unlikely as a re-release of the SVT Focus seems to me, I guess nothing is ever 100% certain.

IF SVT releases another Focus (and SVT has hinted at it themselves), my bet is on them rebadging the new Euro ST220. It has the Volvo S40 T5, but I don't think it has AWD. I posted a link to it sometime ago, but am too lazy to look up the thread. :)

IF that car is released, I am alll over it.

I think a V8 will be in my future... I hope to still have my SVT Focus for the long haul. Tweak it a little and it'll keep up or outperform the newer vehicles.

AWD would be nice, but the SVT Focus lacks power. Give me more power first before AWD.

I just don't see Ford going to the trouble to import that model - they end up with an "orphan" model in the middle of the Focus lineup, nothing like the rest of the cars, which shares few if any parts (I mean not even body parts, which at least the SVT version did). They would have to maintain a stock of parts that wouldn't interchange with any other Focus, just for this one low-volume specialty car.

And on top of that it would have to be legal for sale here, which means it would have to go through the whole process of crash testing and emissions testing, and receive yet more "orphan parts" in the form of North America-only bumpers, lights, and related parts - special parts for North America only, for a car that's only going to sell a few thousand copies a year. Not to mention then you leave the salespeople with the burden of having to answer "why don't all the other Focus models look like this one?" over and over again.

Take yourself back in time to the '90s - can you imagine if in the middle of the North American Ford Escort range they had also offered the European-model Escort RS Cosworth? Sounds pretty ridiculous, doesn't it? The only thing they would have had in common would be the name Escort. Same idea here.

And as many have said before, including myself, no way is Ford going to undercut Mustang sales... have you seen the 2005 Ford sales figures?? The Mustang is the only car Ford has right now that is actually selling well. No way in hell are they going to jeopardize even a slight reduction in the sales of that cash cow.

That is good. Being a SVT owner, I get a good chuckle out of that. What, do you think they will source it to Mazda?

in case you hadn't noticed, none of the new SVT vehicles are even carrying the name "SVT". the new shelby gt500 has little cobra emblems on it, but there's no SVT badges or even the word "Cobra" anywhere on it. the sport trac adrenalin doesn't have any SVT badges on it either. it's all well and good that carroll shelby is working with ford again, but ford needs to release a new SVT cobra that is different from a shelby gt500 - make the shelby a limited run specialty model like the mach 1 was. hey, they could even do the same thing with the boss mustang and bring that back. but I don't think any of that's going to happen

I read somewhere that there was talk of making a less-expensive and less powerful version called the SVT Cobra to slot in underneath the Shelby, and that the idea was shelved.

Actually if you look carefully, you can find the SVT name... on the Shelby, for example, the gauge cluster has the traditional red "SVT" featured on it. When you think about it, the SVT badge has never really been a prominent part of any SVT vehicle, it's always been mostly a little chrome badge and the aforementioned gauge placement. I mean for example on the most recent Cobra (2003/2004), the name "Cobra" molded into the rear bumper was way more noticeable than the tiny SVT badge.

I like the fact that SVT doesn't plaster their emblem all over the car. The reason being the vehicles are so distinguishable to the entusiasts eye that we know what we are looking for. For example with the Cobra there is only the pony in the front grill, with the Focus it was the round fogs in the the front bumper, these are only two examples. To me it cheapens the look of a car when you plaster it with decals. We know what we drive and that is all that should matter.
