Power steering leak

Ok, so my power steering went out on my the other day. I put some fluid in and turned the wheel and found that it appears to be spewing fluid from the bottom of the pump. Is the culprit the pump? The fitting between the pump and the hose? Or something else?

I suppose if no one can give me a somewhat sturdy answer, I'll just pull it off this weekend and find out... In the mean time, I know it's not good to run the pump w/o fluid going through it, so does anyone know what size belt I'd have to get in order to bypass the pump?

Thanks!

Yeah I guess bypassing isn't an option...

I haven't had a chance to look at it since I parked it Sunday. Been moving [mad] God I hate moving...

That'd be the fitting from the pressure hose? So on the bottom of the pump? That'd be my guess.. But can I just replace that, or would that be the whole pump or line?

Just be careful not to crank down the fitting going into the pump as much as possible as you will crush the plastic sleeve meant to seal in the pump...did this before on my F-150 figured it would be like a brake line fitting...WRONG! [facepalm] lol

if it was an autoblown then it was probally broken before you got to the store. Not something that you did.
I kinda like auto zone people buy it and want me to put it in.
They tell me "But it's life time warrentee"
I tell them I get paid labor every time I install it and see you in 2 weeks for another one.
The second to the tenth time the bolts all come out real easy so easy $$ for me.

Ok. So like a retard I waited too long to install my pressure hose, and my pump went. So I went and got a new pump today, and I go to install it (and the hose) and I realize that the refurb pump I got has what seems to be two places for the pressure hose to screw into... One in the OEM location, and then one sort of around the corner from the OEM spot. And wtf, it didn't come with a grommet to block this other opening up... Anyone know what I'm talking about? And possibly point me in the right direction as to find something to plug it?

Shits making me RAGE!

You got the wrong pump bring it back. 2 pressure lines is usually for a diesel with hydroboost. if it dosen't match yours then tell them to try again.

Ok, figured a bit out. The pump I got is the standard zetec pump. The extra fitting on the pump is for the p/s sensor (the svt's sensor is on the pressure hose).

So. Is there any reason I can't plug the sensor hole, and use the standard zetec pump? I know the svt pump is bigger/better/faster etc and I might lose a tiny bit of steering responsiveness, but for the sake of not waiting another week and a half for the pump AND paying almost twice as much for it... could I make this work?

side note: I'm ordering an svt pump, but with the truck in pieces in my garage I need to get this back up and running ASAP. (Only reason I'm even thinking about cutting corners).

More knowledge...

The guys who do SVT header swaps onto standard Zetecs sometimes swap in the SVT p/s pressure hose and use the p/s pressure switch that comes on it. Then they plug their pump's old pressure switch hole w/ a 3/8" fine thread bolt. Sorta like what I'm postulation...

you could do that or plug the hole with a zetec pressure sensor.

Did that on an svt thermostat housing on a zetec

Ok. Thanks for the possible affirmation =P Going to the junkyard during lunch to see if I can't find a Zetec pressure sensor. If I can't, 3/8" it will be.

I'll update this as to my success or failure.

?????
if you use bolt use thread sealant. Sensor would be best bet. Why not just get entire correct pump from boneyard? The zx2 zetec has no sensor on the pump either.

Definitely will use thread lock if I can't find the sensor.

The problem with finding the correct pump from the boneyard is that there aren't any junked SVTs around here... all just the regular zetecs, which is the pump I have.

I C zx2 pump might fit and has no sensor on pump.

What did you use to search?

I picked the sensor off a Zetec pump, twisted it in there and fired it up. No leakage so far. Took it around the complex for 10 minutes or so, can't tell a difference in the steering yet (though that might be just because I haven't had p/s in almost three weeks) but it seems successful.
