Possible option for rear spindle nut...

Searched, but didn't find anything.

Tearing into a rear subframe for a swap on my 07 Focus, and have removed the laminated rear spindle nuts on the hubs.

Seemed a little 'odd' to me to use something like this, so I started looking into what may be out there as a solid nut alternative.

Over on *another* Focus forum, they found that a Dorman 615-091 M22x1.5 spindle nut works for the front hub. Nobody (at the time of that thread) had a solution for a solid rear spindle nut.

Did a little more digging, and found out the rear spindle is an M20x1.5 thread. checked on Dorman's site, and they have an M20x1.5 spindle nut Link Here for Ford Escort/Tempo.

Looks like it may be a solution to the rear laminated nut. Don't know if anyone had found another option, but this may be viable. The Dorman nut is like $7 online, so I am thinking about ordering a couple and trying them out.

So, you want to replace it with a different type of locking nut that's single use?

IDK what the point of this is.

The stock "laminated" spring disc self locking is good for 4 reuses officially, seems better than the solid replacement in some ways.

Didn't know that was a reusable nut.

Will probably keep it then. Figured it was a 'one & done' like every other FWD vehicle I have worked on.

Fords official position is that the laminated nut is good for 4 uses

You can use them as many times as they will still hold torque when you tighten them up. If you feel the torque falling off it's scrap even if second time only. The laminations are what make the OEM nut not back off, a solid nut can come loose since no self-locking going on there. Why you do not have to stake the one piece nut in place any more.

I've re-used solid single piece nuts as well, you have to grind off the staked portion upon removing or tear up the shaft, then you simply restake somewhere else on the nut periphery. It looks ugly but works all day long.

RockAuto shows Centric part 12461901 as being a replacement spindle nut for the Focus. Shows for $8.60 + shipping . They also have the rear dust cap available as Centric part 12461902 .

I have bought a couple of those nuts and they are the multi-laminated nuts like the stock Ford ones are.

Possible option for rear spindle nut...
