OK, my PATS light is flashing fast and because of certain modifications I have done to my focus, the dealership will not reprogram the PATS system. I need to find a way to bypass the PATS system.

I swapped out my automatic tranny for a manual. Somewhere along the way the PATS got corrupted. When I took the car in, they saw that the tranny had been swapped and they told me that they couldn't legally touch my car because my modifications messed with the emission system. Yes I know that that is crap, but nothing I can do about it. Since they won't reprogram the PATS system, I need to bypass the system.

I know it is possible and I need to know how to bypass the PATS.

What mods do you have done so that the dealership will not look at it? The PATS light..we have a PATS light? Is that the blinking light where the hazard switch is?

Yep, notice the next time that you start your car that it will light up and stay lit until the car starts.

I only have 1 local dealership. The next closest dealership is 2 hours away. This is why I need to know how to bypass the PATS system.

Chances are your brought it to Butler Ford. Try bringing it to Mock Ford Lincoln Mercury located in Grants Pass. It's 42 min away from Butler Ford.

go back to the dealer go into the shop and ask to speak to the tech.tell him whats going on he might program it on the side. you will need both of your pats keys so he can reprogram the system. the problem is that the new pcm and your pats transciver module will not communicate each other.

The PCM keeps track of the valid keys to accept for starting the car. Since you swapped the PCM, you need to have a dealer reprogram the PCM for your keys, as if you lost both keys and got new ones. I doubt that its easy to bypass the PATS. If it were, it wouldn't be effective.

I hear you. I know what it's like not to be able to drive your own car, but I think the dealership might have some special method to do this. Besides other dealerships, I don't know what else to recommend...Perhaps try that other dealership located 40 min away?

Yeah I'm sure there MIGHT be a way to bypass the system but what BornAgain's saying is if it was well-known or easy to do the PATS being installed on all Foci to protect them would basically be a moot point.

I have heard on very Rare occasions of advanced car theifs hotwiring a Focus without the PATS, but I have no idea how, and it almost never happens because the system is set up really well... I would also try another dealer.

Question though, if PATS is corrupted how does your car start? Or does it accept your key and start but the light keeps blinking? I would try the Grants Pass dealer, I think my brother went there a year or so ago and had a pleasant experience. I mean it's your choice, live with whatever the system is doing and wait for it to break something (I don't even know if it would?!), pull off your HVAC surround and cut the wire to the PATS LED if this issue doesn't cause any more harm than the annoyance of a blinking light, try to find this mysterious hack, or take a drive over to another dealer Just In Case they can do it. Hell, give them a call, that's free (or 5 cents a minute or whatever)... explain what you have done, say another dealer gave you trouble and you want to know if they can do it before you take a drive out. Ask to speak to a tech not the Service desk person... then if he says Yeah, go out there and ask for him to see your car.

Randy, I think the light is part of PATS, it's called the Passive Antitheft Light or something. It stops blinking when the PATS key is in because it recognizes that you are allowed to access the car. Before that it blinks to let would-be theifs know there's some sort of security, whether they take that as meaning an alarm, or know it needs a special key to be started, either way it's a passive deterrent. My mom tells me it shaves a couple bucks off the insurance too, if you have coverage for theft.

I found out some locksmiths can reprogram keys. The one who changed my Ignition cylinder said he does it, he offered me $75.00 for two keys and programing. Call a couple lock smiths and they will come to you also.

Find a local place that does remote start installs. A professional place that knows their stuff. Astrostart and a few other companies make bypass kits for the pats system so you can remote start your car. The techs at these places can tell you how to bypass it. You may need to by a module in order to do it. They are usually about $50 or so...I can even look up witch one you need at work, but a good shop will have a few in stock.
