Noise when turning

Ok.... when I turn right, there seems to be a rubbing noise or maybe something wrong with the wheel bearing. I went to the dealer once, he changed some wheel bearings and the noise went down but didn't dissapear completely. This happens on both stock conti tires and sumitomo tires. I went again, and I was told that the noise was normal because the tires were "low profile." Is that possible? (BTW I've been to another dealership before and they said that didn't hear a problem noise at all?!) Is it possible that there is something wrong with the halfshafts?

I had the same problem when I made left turns and the weight of the car shifted to the right. In my case it was the...i don't know what you call it but i'll refer to it as a "deflector shield"....which was bent in and rubbed against my rotors. A simple pair of pliers solved the problem for me. Hope your case is as easy as mine.

where is this deflecto shield?

its behind the rotor, what tire pressure to you run mine made noise like that when my tires are at like 29 psi,

mine makes a rotational noise wether turning or not ford says they dont hear it but its pissing me off and have no idea what it is, sounds like something rubbing but even when im not on the brakes

Mine does that when I turn left also. One dealer said that they could find anything and another said it was my cv boot rubbing. The supposed fix was that they greased the boot and now it sounds louder. This problem is really getting on my nervses.

Mine did the same thing. If it the same problem, it is easy to fix, NO TOOLS!

The fenders have a series of tabs that keep the inner fender well in place. When I got mine back from the dealer for some body work (another story) they removed the inner fender well, and in doing so the tabs were bent down towards the wheel a little. One of the tabs was rubbing against the tire on extreme cornering, or hitting a bump.

Check it out. Bend the tabs away from the tire with your fingers, the metal of the fender is not too thick :(

Good luck!

I read on svtperformance where a guy was having similar problems, took it to a dealer and there was a TSB on torque settings for the front suspension bolts...they retorqed the bolts to the new settings and everything was fine after that...he didn't get the TSB, but it is for all Foci 00-04.

I just got my car back from Ford for what sounds like a similar problem. I hear a rubbing sound went turning hard right and faintly went all is quiet and rolling in neutral. I took two different techs for a ride on different days, they both said they heard it. After two days they change my power steering pump and the right front axel. The car still makes the same sounds , which may even be louder now (or this is just my fustration w/ thier incompitence).[mad][?|]

I had the same problem/ sound with my car, but the problem was not the tires. Then a vibration started at high rpm only then in a matter of 3 weeks, it got very bad starting at 2500 rpm. I took it to a ford dealer in Quakertown, PA and they said that it the air filter changing the flow into the intake maifold resulting in an electronic problem the runner in the intake maifold. They wanted me to pay $90 hr @ 3 hr just to look at it because my car was consider highly modified (All I have is the basic bolt-on, no FI or nitrous). I could not belive the could do or say that. So I called ford and the gave me a new dealer to look at my car. It went in on a monday and I got it back the following fri. The problem was very bad. It was a brocken axal bearing which calsed the axal to twist, sway bars, sway bar link ends, wheel bearing, string box, and struts in the front. I could not belive the other dealer it not see or care to see the problem but pushed it off to me to deal with. Now my car runs great, just like new. The reason every thing wore bad because I drove the car over 3,000 miles before I could get it in to get fixed. I am not very hard on my car and never spin the tires. I just drive it to school and now it is 1.5 years old and 35,500 miles on it. Just able to get it fixed for free.

You guys arn't alone on this one. I've been experiencing the same rubbing when turning right. The rubbing can now be heard slightly when driving forward. Took the car in twice and had both left and right shafts replaced. Hopefully, someone will fiqure this mystery out for us.

ajbeer-Just to clairfy, what were you hearing before you starting getting the vibrations. You've got me concerned, I'm @ about 30k miles.
I don't know all that much, but my thoughts were that my problem is possibly axel bearings.

GonePostal-how many miles do you have?

yea i still have this problem 4 trips to the dealer later and no answers mabye one day ill get a tech who actually cares about is job and is interesting in actually trying! sorry for the rant but i complained about this in august and its killing me i feel like im driving a pos when its making noises.

I have 21k on mine now. Havent had any rubbing noise yet. What I did have was a grinding sound when I accel and decel mainly from or too a stop. Ford changed the front sway bar links and upper strut bearings and caps. Noise gone. I know it is frustrating when they shotgun parts at something and it doesnt fix it, but man I love getting free new parts under warranty just because the teck is too lazy to troubleshoot [thumb]

Just had new tires put on and no more rubbing sound. There was excessive wear on the outer edge of the tires which is the only rational explanation I can come up for the cause of the problem. I had an alinement done to prevent the same problem with the new tires.

I had the same problem with the rear passenger side when turning right. It would make a whiring noise that sounded like the brake was dragging on a slightly warped rotor (the rotor was not warped). I took it to a local dealership twice for the problem and ended up having to take the tech for a ride for them to hear it. They put on new rotors, calipers and pads in the back, and the sound did not go away. Then they said that the problem was with the tire. There was plenty of tread on it, but I let them put tires on the back anyway. It seemed to fix it, but just last week, I had a couple of prople in the back seat and it made the sound again while going around a corner.... very frustrating... and as someone said earlier in this post.. it makes you feel like you are driving a crap car.

My 2 cents.

Mine did that too when turning left. I could not figure out for the life of me where the sound was coming from. I finally took it too the dealer and they said one of the brake lines was not secure in the retaining clips(attached to the shocks) and it was rubbing against the tire.[?|]

^^^^ That's prolly your motor mount. Check those for brakage.

Hey guys, I have the same noise all the time. It sounds like rotational rubbing on the breaks or axle or something and is definitely coming only from the front end. It sounds louder under the following conditions...

Hard Breaking
Turning

Additionally, I have a lot of feedback from the break pedal under hard breaking and there is anti-lock break noise much louder than ever....also doesn't break as effectively as before. Could these issues be related????

I agree the noise doesnt seem to have any mechanical problems associated with it but it annoys the heck out of me.
