So I've been scratching my head wondering why my car had no traction control feature or an abs system, Is that really a thing?
A car with neither safety feature from the factory

Yes that is really a thing. In 2004 those were optional on that car. More expensive cars had them standard.
I remember when:
there was no such thing as ABS
there was no such thing as traction control
cars did not have air bags
cars did not have seat belts
cars did not have padded dashes
cars did not have impact crumple zones
cars did not have door anti impact beams
cars did not have collapsible steering columns
cars had carburetors
cars had fuel tanks right ahead of the rear bumper
and on and on and on...
And people still die in cars made 20 years into the 21st century with all those 'safety' features.
