So, iv had a 02 svt sitting around for some time now. I pulled it out today and decided to drive it a little. Well some (ALOT) of teeth broke off the timing belt while i was driving it. Got it back to the house tore it all down thinking im gonna have to remove the head and get new valves. Before i got to far i check the valve buckets. all were up and had spring pressure. So i found a timing belt i had laying around and put it on. real quick (half ass job) and it fired right up. It has a very rough idle but smooth if i rev it. I did a compression test and it was 120,120,120,120. Im 98% sure the cam timing is WAY off.
Here is my question. How do u set the cam timing on a SVT with that VCT Gear. I have done it many times before on zetec but never SVT. When i put the belt on i didnt know what to do with the VCT so i just lined up the cams and crank with the tools and installed the belt. Iv tried looking for a how to with no success. I got 3 codes when i started it
p0193,p1246,p1504
When the car was running it had no accessories (no belt or timing cover/motor mount) so im thinking those codes are low voltage related.

There are lots of posts and links to the Ford procedure here, basically, you place crank at TDC, and check the cam positions with the flat plate. If out 180, take crank around one more time to TDC, set preferrably with the stop pin. Remove the belt and lock the cams with the flat plate. Loosen the VCT pulley bolt and let it reset in position while installing the belt and tensioner, then retighten pulley bolt. I would find the big procedure and review it, and obviously, do not use either of the special tools to hold the shafts for wrenching.
Edit: I looked for the Ford procedure here, and the link we have always used seems to be down? I will look again when I have time, I may have the PDF file saved somewhere also.

i got an email from a guy on here this morning with the link to fords procedure. I should be good. Ill keep u posted.

Im still amazed at how it didnt bend any valves. the compression was even across all four cylinders. low be even.

Got it running. I put the accessory belt on and everyting and all the CEL's went off. Now the battery light is on. and code p1246 is still there. car makes 13.5 volts steady.

Posted via FF Mobile13.5 running is low... no idea how low to set code, 14.2 would be closer to normal... have seen variations between meters & measuring points.. known good meter at batt. is 12.63 fully charged,14.2 typical charging (with good batt fully charged) lower until batt up to charge sometimes, or with a bad one... for example the truck I drive shows 13.8 when fully charged on dash meter, but it`s really 14 -14.1 with a good meter at the battery.
