Minimum Rotor Thickness

Replacing front pads, one rotor is scored from running out of pad on one side ( Does anyone know the spec for minimum rotor thickness on a 2001 focus wagon with stock vented 10" rotors? Not sure if they're worth resurfacing or I just drop the cash on a new pair. The other cars I've had (Hondas) always had it stamped on the rotor but I don't see anything on these ones.

Thx!

Disc Brake Specification mm
Brake disc diameter 258
New brake disc nominal thickness 22
Worn brake disc discard thickness* 20
Maximum brake disc runout (installed) 0.050
Maximum thickness variation 0.020
Worn brake lining discard thickness* 1.5
Brake caliper piston diameter 54

That's directly from the workshop manual

dont' go to a shop

if it's scored they almost always want to put new rotors on and they charge an arm and a leg for that there best quote I got around my town was 100, for resurfacing and new pads, for that money I bought new rotors/pads/and set of metric hex key wrenches, and did it myself in well under and hour...

Most auto parts stores will turn rotors and drums for 8 to 10 bucks each. The good stores will use a micrometer to measure them, do some quick math, and determine if turning them will take them below spec. In the long run a new rotor may be better an isn't that expensive compared to a lot of things. Expect to pay about 40.00 each for a new rotor. I suggest replacing them in pairs to assure appropriate side to side bias. There's nothing wrong turning them if it does remove the scoring and doesn't take them below spec.

true

but when you know it's been metal to metal for a couple of days, you don't want to have anythign to do with any of that afterwards....
that was my situation, and also, not everyone can lift their' car
and the go to an autoparts store get their' rotors turned
I did it in front of my apartment with the stock jack, lugwrench and a hex key
it's all abotu what you wanna spend in the end, and how you wanna do it

Who said anything about going to a shop to get the pads/disks done? My Father showed me back in '86 when I got my first car how to change front pads, never been to a garage for brakes since then! I had it down to 7 1/2 minutes a side on my 85 Civic if it was just pads... I went through a lot of them!)

In the end I got the Focus disks turned, they just made spec, will likely order some cross-drilled ones in the near future, plenty on e-bay for the Focus. Did about 700 kms each way on vacation last week while towing my sailboat through plenty of twisty/hilly roads... brakes seemed fine despite only just being spec.

you missread

I meant if you wanted to get your' rotors turned yourself, to take those to a store
I can't resurface a rotor at my apartment, but I do just about anything
that can be done with a car on jack stands
ya get what I was saying now,
