Marcy MS Head Pkg. vs. FS Package

So i've decided to go with one of these two head packages (ported head, cams, valves, springs/retainers) after i get my short ram and exhaust.

I can't decide between the Marcy Motorsports Head or the FocusSport Head Package.
It seems as though both offer the same results as far as the hardware is concerned, but there is a discrepancy on the price; (MM-$1850, FS-$1974).

Neither kit comes with a chip and/or tuning, but i'm going to guess they yield about the same results on the dyno since they are basically the same thing. MM claims 35-40whp increase, and FS claims 50whp and 28wtq.

Whichever kit i decide to go with, i will buy a chip and get tuning done. My plan is to peak at around 200 crank hp. If i want more, i guess i'll have Tom hook me up with one of his kits[}:)].

If anyone has any opinions/experience with either of these kits any help would be appreciated.

Overall, you can probably do it cheaper on your own with the FR head vs. getting a package. I did mine for well around 1100 or 1200 total (head, cams, lifters, injectors and maf and assorted other parts).

I have experience with all of the head packages available as far as testing and tuning.

Except the marcy package cuz no one has one.

There are 2 better options than the FS or Marcy.

One is a package consisting of the FR cylinder head and components from mcnews automotive. They have done a ton of research of the last few years and know exactly what makes power and what doesn't. I won't go into parts here but they can build a package I would take any day over the other 2 mentioned.

The other option you have to contact me about, can't really talk about it publicly.

Hmm..hadn't considered that option, but could it be possible that frankenstiening (is that a word?eh.) your own head package is what lead to blown rings? I would think that having a performance shop testing the pkg. over and over again is almost worth the cost hike.

Nobody likes blown motors.

If you are not familiar with cylinder heads and specifically zetec heads, its not wise to try and home port your own.

Discord how did you get a FR head, crane 3's and the other bolt ons for $ 1200, the head and cams alone cost that?

i dont know if am suposed to talk about it or not but someone on here(hint hint) is working on a head for me for a really good price.I should have it on in somewhere around a month so i'll let ya know how that goes.

[:D] I think i understand your reference; hopefully you can keep us posted on how that works out for you. This could be a viable option for me if all turns out well.

Good prices and knowledgable people makes Royce happy.

except that last head porter, id say FR head over the other two, when i was going NA i had nice one on order from Mcnews, 11:1, cat 2s, crower springs........

about that fr head from mcnews, what compression ratio do those come in, are they all high compression ratios or can u get the stock comp ratio, in case u plan on f/i in the future??

#14 ·
i think you can get them in several custom configurations, especially if you need to keep the compression low for FI. The FS and MM heads are available in several different CRs.

I don't see why they wouldn't give you the option.

it comes at the stock Cr but mcnews can mill it for u to get a higher cr. if you really want to try and get good #s na a high cr is pretty much necessary. stage 3 cams, an aftermarket head, and a stock cr head leaves something out. what are your chances on boosting?

#16 ·
yeah but i mean how much hp can u actually pull out of an n/a focus and still keep the thing an everyday driver?? as opposed to a turbo kit, u can still maintain its drivability under low boost.

You can make a ton of power.

For example, mcnews car makes 164 whp and 154 wtq and has run 14.2's with less power, it will see high 13's with the 164 whp and 155 wtq. With a 75 shot it wil go 12's.

I have seen daily driven foci with 170+ whp

well this all depends on your definition of daily driver, 175whp will buck and be loud, and will not pass emissions (except w/ the SVT and RT combo possibly)

yeah contact mcnews about working a FR head id say. its nice to have ur stock head around so you can swap back if you do plan on going FI.
But can't you keep the compression the same so you don't have to swap for FI?

Nope. I am almost positive what let to this is something that happened some 40k miles before I put the head on. I had a drop in power one day, later dyno proven, and was never able to regain it. It's my feeling that this may have been the inital stages. Btw...I had like 75k on my motor when I put the head on, now at 94.

I waited paitently, got stuff second hand (mostly barely used or brand new second hand), shopped ebay, waited for sales, junkyards etc. It took me about 8 months to get everything together. I refuse to pay retail prices on things unless I absolutly need too. IMO, head packages are way over priced as is.
