The big things are the thread, pitch and seat; M12x1.5 60* seat. Other than that you can go with whatever you want, open, closed, yadda-yadda.

to fit the hubcaps on steel wheels you NEED to have the open ended ones. closed ended ones will keep the hubcaps from snapping all the way onto the wheel, as they extend out further than open ended ones.

 

Good to know. I wondered about that. Guess I'll have 16 extra lug nuts now... Lol

Ok.. So here are a few pics to show you what I'm dealing with. I bought this car a year ago and put a motor in it myself. I bought it to avoid putting miles on my truck. This is how I've driven it so far. So far I'm into it roughly $1300

I've been watching the local classifieds hoping to find better looking wheels or even caps but no luck. I stopped by a used hub cap store and found used sets for $99. Then ended up buying a new set of oem caps on eBay for $120.

I found a set of lug nuts too. Picked some up at a local service shop while I was getting my work car serviced. They are not the bulge nuts, just the plain ones like the second link I posted. But he gave them to me for free so I won't complain.

 

yeah all that really matters is 1) they actually hold your wheel on and 2) in your case, they are open ended so the hubcap fits on. I didn't realize hubcaps were so expensive. I got my oem 16's for 50 bucks with tires, off a friend but still.

 

Yeah that's why I waited a whole year and watched the classifieds. But even on their the people think their used stuff is worth retail. So finally I just bought them on eBay. Maybe a little window tint and I'm good to go.
