Hi all,

Bought a 56 plate 1.6 zetec focus this weekend. Then one day later my ignition warning light came on.

It then after another day went off, and has come on briefly and every now and then for last 2 days.

I took it back to Ford and they said to "keep my eye on it" and should be fine. Everything looks ok.

Anyone else had issues like this?

My first (relatively) new car and this happens!!

Thanks in advance

The light you are referring to indicates a problem in the charging system. Since the problems intermittent it makes it hard for a mechanic to isolate the problem.

Here's a link to site that covers the charging system; http://www.familycar.com/Classroom/charging.htm

Should you be worried? Something is wrong, but it may not get to the point of total failure for some time. Good luck.

its a 2006, i know. but these things do happen. it is under warranty and they stealership needs to take care of this. dont let them tell you that a flickering battery light is normal.

some local parts stores may be able to do it. i dont know what kind of market there is in your region. i cant tell you what store to go to. if you lived stateside, i could lead you better.

There are numerous components that might be the culprit. If you have a voltage meter, you can check your battery, looking for a reading of app. 12.5 volts when the motors not running, and around 14 volts when it's running. If you have a bad battery, you would get most of the symptoms you describe. The intermittent nature of the problem might be caused by a bad ground...

All of this is moot if you have a new car under warrantee. Take it back to the dealership and tell them that you refuse to sent away with a pat on the head, and will settle for nothing less than them honoring your warrantee and fixing the damn problem.
