I decided to do some regular maintenance buy installing some new spark plugs and a new fuel filter. The fuel filter hasnt been replaced in god knows how long and the spark plugs were damaged by oil. I was getting roughly 21 mpg city before i did this but now i am only getting 17 mpg! WTH is going on! I figured this would help me out! I did reset the a/f by disconnecting the neg for 20 min. Do you guys have any ideas or any suggestions? I'm sick of going to the pump twice a week when gas here is about $3.30 a gallon

yep, was going to say the same thing. give it a week. i forget how long it takes, but if things aren't looking better within a few tanks and a few hundred miles, then complain, lol.

Personally I think you need to clean you mass air flow sensor. Your car is having a hard time making a fuel map. It should learn it in 7 miles, so there is no reason that it should take a tank or two to see a increase. Get MAF cleaner, for 5 bucks it worth a try

Wrong.....

it takes about 150 miles of driving BEFORE the ECU starts making changes.

my focus is standard

The plugs i bought are..Autolite double platinum. When i bought the car used the previous owner had the same plugs. I dont know if those are stock or not.

I have to take apart my CAI this weekend so i'll be sure to get some cleaner

i dont drive like mr honda-man down the street. Only time the pedal hits the floor is when i'm passing someone on the highway. I drive especially cautious this time of year anyways with the snow and ice as the lovely ny weather

I want to update on what i've done... I bought a bottle of fuel system cleaner, bottle of MAF sensor cleaner, took out the CAI and switched it with a short ram, and got a new air filter.

Car runs a ton better and i can tell i'm getting better mpg. I really think it was the dirty MAF. thanks focus_SWT for the recommendation

No problem, Any kind of oiled filter results in this. But I like oiled filters... Just clean it ever time you clean and oil the filter. I do mine every 2 months... On my F350 dually the Explorer and the Focus....

And it makes a diff. on all of them
