<------------- 17 y/o with SVT Focus... Eh, not insane, but it isn't great either.
Here's the deal dude, and this is coming from somebody with experience. Don't challenge somebody with something you don't have. Here's why, if you challenge somebody with something you don't have, and you end up never getting it, you look like a dumba$$. Also, surprises are always better than early notification. For the next two years, your brother will be relentless with "where's your SVT Focus?" Also, if you actually end up getting one, then, he will constantly be nagging you to race him, which, if you want to beat him, you won't be ready for a while. You would've been better off never mentioning anything to him and surprising him, but it's too late for that now. Next step, as a 17 year old with a performance sports car, and knowing the people I know, no one should have a car like this as their first car. I was lucky enough to knock my stupid driving senses out of me before I got this car by crashing my Mom's VW Passat VR6. Before that, I was invincible on the road, nobody could touch me, I felt I was mature enough to own a Supra, and I almost did. If that had happened, it's quite likely that I wouldn't be here right now. I learned a lot quicker than most people the danger of cars. Very, very few 16 year olds are mature enough to handle a fast car. I know you're probably gonna say, I'm different, i can handle it blah blah blah, I was saying the same things. Basically, crashing scared me out of driving fast. I hardly ever exceed the speed limit by more than 5 mph and I don't push the limits through turns. I still love driving fast, but there's a time and a place for everything. As a wise philosopher once said, "Take it to the track." Until something clicks inside your head how stupid and dangerous driving fast is, you probably shouldn't drive a fast car. I would recommend getting a cheap, safe, econo car now and getting a faster car in the future. Delayed gratification is a good thing.
I'm done.
