dual overhead cams being bathed in engine oil is the cause for the valve cover temperature.

 

i have about 4.5 qts of oil in there enough to read full on the dipstick.

 

What was meant, is that oil is supplied to the cams to keep them lubed wich is thrown off during rotation. Through normal operation the oil heats up. This causes the vavle cover to heat up from the oil spraying/soaking the inside of the cover.

is the heat difference because the valve cover is different material on the zetec compared to the spi?

 

No if anything the aluminum SPI cover would heat faster and easier.

i also have that problem and yes it's supposed to be that hot leke the other guy said its cause its a thinner material the valve cover is made of and the fact that it's covered in oil all the time. plus the zetecs run hot as it is. espically if u get a header. it will overheat if u let it sit still for more than 15 min. mine does it all the time
