Header question

So I'm in the market for a new header and I think I've found a pretty good deal. Most of the headers I've found range from $250 to ~$500. I found a deal that would run me around $150 and it comes with a stainless header, downpipe, gaskets and all hardware. Is this deal too good to be true? Or should I pounce on it while I have the chance?

longtube or shorty header?
what brand?

If its a used longtube that sounds reasonable. If its a shorty header than thats probably about right for new. I sold a shorty header and downpipe recently for that price.

you can get cheap off brand stuff but they use cheaper metal, but brand names are usually good.

Get the svt header swap. It's something like 300 shipped. It gives the best gains. If your going to do it... Do it right!

welcome to the focus fanatics forum, hope you find the info you are looking for.

i agree, i have a wrapped svt header and i can vouch for it, although there isnt that much difference from other longtubes. the svt header has equal length primaries that most headers out there dont have. IMO it helps with low-end torque.

you also need to decide if you want to retain your cat, or just go with a race header (no catalytic converter). the svt header keeps the cat and makes it possible to buy a bolt on hi flow cat.

i decided to keep my cat b/c its just to damn loud without one.

You will get better gains from the svt setup if you can find one for cheap, else go w/ the obx long tube and you will be set.

Yeah, I've heard that the SVT swap has the most noticable gains and if I can find one for the right price, I'll do it. But I'm trying to get the most out of what I can spend at this particular time. Thanks for all the recommendations guys.

Yeah, I don't want to get ridiculously loud. Right now I have a Borla Cat-back exhaust and I've always been told that if I get a performance header that it would make it sound so much better without it becoming annoyingly loud. And of course there's the performance aspect too ;).

whats wrong with the focuscentral header?

focus central is good quality, no doubt. just make sure you do not get the cheap knock off that i pointed out earlier in this thread that claims to be focus central.

I just installed the JBA shorty--wanted to keep it all Cali legal. Not a huge difference, but it pulls a little harder from about 2,500 up to 5,000. I have a lot of other mods that help though. It was an easy install. 3 hours with dinner and a beer.
