yep, you need to remove the plastic guard and at least remove part of the fender wheel well liner, enough to pull it away so you can get to the back of the fender.

The "Stealth CAI" how-to by BlazingCopperZX3 has pretty straight forward instructions for removing the stock intake system.

 

The airbox has 2 easy to reach bolts that hold it in and one WTFPAININTHEASS one at the front of the car. You have to take the fender lining out, good luck! Hope you have tiny fingers []

 

Yep, take the tire off and pull down the part of the lining. Its pretty straight forward at that point.

 

I was hoping to avoid having to take off the tire and such, but I guess I have no choice.

Yeah, it was hard getting the lower airbox out, but it was all worth it. I've driven with it many times now and I love the gain in horsepower and the nice breathing noise. Reminds me of the CAI I had on my Mustang.

 

Just wondering, does a CAI or any intake other than stock void or effect the warranty?

 

I don't know of any that do. As long as you retain the MAf sensor and things like that you will be fine.

 

Thats good to know. After looking at theFocus sport intake it looks like a good candidate for a bypass valve to avoid gulping up water froma deep puddle

 

a bypass valve could not work on our cars... because to be affective it'll have to be "high" on the intake, thus placing it after the MAF.

 

I'm using a K&N CAI and I'm not worried about hydrolocking, I won't be driving through any deep puddles. if the water is deep enough to hydrolock it will be coming inside the car. I wouldn't drive in water that deep even without my CAI.

 

i installed that kit on my 07 zxc SE PZEV, when i turn off the car it makes sort of a "air surge" noise. ne ideas what it could be???

 

As far as I know, that's what it's supposed to do. I had a cold air intake on my late '04 Mustang, and it had the same noise when you cut off the engine. I think the FocusSport CAI's just do that. Others may not, though. I like the sound when I cut the engine off.

 

just got my FS intake today cant wait to put it on. quick question kinda dumb but does the ITG filter come preoiled and how do you clean it?

 

focussport sells stuff for the ITG filter.

 

saw that, just wanted to know if the ITG filter comes preoiled b/c FS site said it does but paper that came with the intake says its not and need to be preoiled before use.

 

It comes preoiled. Mine did.

 

So since you've gotten this on, does the dealer give you any flack when you bring it in for services? JW becase I want to get one pretty soon myself.

did you have to remove your splashguard now that you have your cai installed or can you have both on at the same time?

 

I had to remove my splash guard to actually install my CAI, but it goes back on when you're done.

 

dont know yet... but it'll be dynoed and dyno tuned after i get my 2.3L head ported, polished and have cams on it to install, maybe stg 3 cams this time, and also with the 2.3 head ill be gettin the 2.3 intake manifold which Tom(1turbofocus) tells me flows better than the 2.0 intake manifold. so my hopes are for about 200BHP, which will be around 175ish whp, or more, idk how the stg 3's will boost power, sinse im running 2's now, then ill throw a torsen, and 4.06 gears in, and then see how well my car performs at the track.

 

i did it without taking my tire off...i took out that little black peice that looks like a place a fog light could go and put one hand through there but i love mine as well!! my FS exhaust will be on Monday cant wait!

 

Installing the FocusSport CAI does require you to remove the tire and splashguard, to be able to properly remove the entire lower airbox and all of its pieces. Before you do it, you think it'll be hard. But after you've done it, you realize how easy it was. I LOVE MY FOCUSSPORT CAI!

 

Well I done did it - I ordered my FS CAI! [] I also ordered the VF rear mount. These will be my first perf. mods for meh fofo and I can't wait to get them on!
