Focus Central TB or R/T cat?

I'm itching for another mod to do, and I have a little bit of extra money.

I've pretty much narrowed it down to either a FC throttle body or a RT hi-flow cat. I'm wondering which I should do first, and why.

I'm leaning towards the cat first, cause I think I have more restriction in exhaust than induction with my cold air kit and my semi-ram air (foglight removed for direct air blowing into the cold air intake)

Has anyone done a rt cat with a stock (unported) throttle body? were the results good, or not so much? I'd be upgrading the throttle body too, just not at the same time, probably the following month.

I know I could port my stock TB, but that's not really my style. I prefer to keep all stock parts stock, in case I need them for emergencies or diagnosis. I replace with upgraded stuff, but never get rid of or modify what the car came with. (i do the same on my bike)

Likewise, I have no interest in going with an ORP, for low end loss reasons, plus even though I'm in Fla where nobody gives a damn, I'd rather have a legal cat.

Any helpfull input is appreciated!![thumb]

Go with the R/T high flow! I have the T/B and while it's a killer piece it will not give you any noticeable power, more like it enhances the way it drives. I'll assume the R/T highflow gives you the same or similiar rush that the ORP does and man is that a blast! With the T/B I noticed an improved pedal feel, my RPM's seem to hang in a way that I prefer over stock when shifting, most importantly the cold start idle RPM's dropped some and I liked that. Just my opinion but I say go with the high flow [thumb]

Between those two, R/T Cat ALL THE FRICKIN WAY. The TB is a good piece, but I would not pay full retail for it, in fact, I didn't I just bought it used, lol. Get the cat.

TB - Better pedal feel (porting the stock tb WON'T give you this) and opens up the path for the intake. Not much power to be gained.

RT cat - Makes the exhaust louder and gives a good kick in the pants.

I'd recommend the RT cat, though it's a pain in the butt to install!

The T/B is the part that you want to get once everything else is in place, intake & Highflow / ORP. That's when it becomes noticeably appreciable. And do try and get it used to save some coin, I see them for sale alot or so it seems.

Dathlox You have a PM...[:D]

It seems everyone agree's the cat should come first, which is cool, cause that's what i really wanted to do first anyway. Hopefully I can snag that one posted above and save a few bucks too![:D]

I personally would like my car to drive better so I would go with the T/B.
It will drive a lot better with the Cat. About 7 horsepower better. [confused]

A TB on the SVT is useless. Seriously. The stocker is big enough. The improved throttle response is just because of a different pivot point/arm and a different spring. Focus Fanatics dyoed for what... 4HP at 6000RPM? And that's the first time I've seen a "proven" positive gain from one.

I had one for a brief period of time, and only because someone was parting out their car and I bought everything as one package. I sold off what I didn't want. I had it on the car for a little while just to try it. I sold it along with the SD and livewire set.

I have a 57mm on my mustang and it has 240rwhp. Not a restriction there.

I think people just buy the TB so they have more mods on there car. Guess it makes them feel better. The ORP is a better choice, but it makes your car sound like ass. There is a torque loss down low, thats for sure... but a nice gain above 4000RPM. I am still contimplating taking mine off because it sounds like ass.

It's also noticeably larger throughout

It may not make much of any power (what does on these cars) but what it does for driveability especially when combined with complimentary mods like an intake, ORP, or high flow is very appreciable. Every time I drive my car now I can't help but think "this" is how it should have driven from the factory. There are entirely too many used T/B's in the market for anyone to pay full price thereby making these affordable. Calling it useless IMO is quite off the mark.

What does it do for driveability that can't be duplicated for free?

It is a waste of money on our cars. I understand people try to rationalize purchasing it... but that doesn't make it a worthwhile modification.

Why do you think there are so many used ones?
