Ok, I just installed my Volant, but you know the little hose you have to plug into the corner of the Volant, near the MAF hole? Well, tried to plug/snap it in, but it just kind of goes and, and can fall out anytime. Is this normal? Any ideas?

No, mine was really tight when it fit into my VOLANT.

You could probably crazyglue it in place (temporarily). Does that 'angled' piece look damaged or old? I had to push pretty hard in to get mine to fit and my VOLANT was a used one so it's had one in there before. You can also buy that tube with the rubber 90 degree angle piece from FORD also.... pretty cheap.... or the junkyard....

i'm assuming you're talking about the crankcase ventilation filter hose, the one that runs from the valve cover over to the box? if so, i'd recommend just sticking a breather filter on the end and be done with it. won't pass smog that way in some areas, though.

I have the exact same problem with my Volant. My mechanice told me the secret to a nice fix. The problem is the tube isn't long enough and so over time the tension of the tube pulls the end out of the Volant. To fix it go to some place like Pep Boys and find a plastic piece that is used to join two pieces of tube. Cut the tube and put the joiner in the middle to slightly lengthen the tube and it wont pull out of the box anymore. Hope this hleps.

Microtonal, who are you talking to?

Yeah that makes sense what your saying.... so you would recommend the 'filter' on the end of that hose rather then just hooking it into the air box?

If you look in the original air box you will see Ford used a little square of foam to filter air comming in that tube. I thought about transfering this piece of foam from the stock air box but decided I wanted to keep the original parts in tact.

I was just asking if particles could get in to the engine from the Volant box through the unfiltered crank case tube.

I wasn't sure and didn't know the answer so I bought a breather filter and plugged the hole in the Volant.

Are you guys sure that tube is under a vaccum? I thought it was under slight pressure. I thought the idea of having the tube terminate in the air box was so the negative pressure in there would assist in drawing fumes from the crankcase. Wouldn't this be part of the "positive" in the Positive Crankcase Ventilation?

I guess I could could start the car, pull the hose, put my finger over it and answer this myself, but... I'd rather take a nap.

^^^^^ yes it's the PCV valve that the hose it attached to. What microtonal is saying does make sense though, I might go and do what he did this weekend on the 'safe side' unless I hear or read otherwise. Focaltech would know this..... but in all honestly, VOLANT does put some heavy R&D from what I can see into their designs so if it was REALLY an issue, I am sure they would have not overlooked this.

Curious, I might PM focaltech on this one.....

If you hear back from him let us know. I'm interested.

I _think_ what your discussing is the 'crankcase pressure relief hose'. "think" is the key word here.

Why would you terminate a hose that has negative pressure into a box (air cleaner assembly)that also has negative pressure? - <--- o ---> - Seems to counteract and contradict itself to me. A postive into a negative -<--- o <--- + makes more sense. It would draw the pressure created in the crankcase into the intake to be re-combusted.

Of course, the vehicles I grew up with had draft tubes instead of PCV systems. So, what do I know? :)

Serious...lol I always thought that was the PCV. I knew it had to do with ventilation and vacuum. So how does that work with the VOLANT? Do you think a filter on the end is better then running it back to the air box?

not better, but hell...if u want, friggen rubberband a sponge around the tube, not only will it make it fit, but its doing the same as it did stock. i had a k&n breather on my car for about 20k

That breather hose is to allow any pressure that builds in the crankcase a place to vent. It does not draw air into the engine. The only reason the stock box has a piece of foam in it is to trap any oil or oily fumes. Otherwise the inside of your box will be all oily. At some point when your engine gets lots of miles and seals and valves wear oil will blow through that hose.

There are 3 choices:
1. leave the hose off, vent to atmosphere..
2. install the hose in the airbox.
3. put a filter on the end of the hose.

Do not under any circumstance plug the hose. When/if enough pressure builds in the crankcase if it doesnt have a place to go .......... BOOM

Well, figured out a good (and cool!) solution...I got a generic small breather filter from Autozone; I cut the stock hose to just the bend by the cam cover, used the 90 degree stock plastic elbow, put the filter on one, and put that on the cut end of the hose. It worked great; I'll post pics tomorrow
