Hey whats up I am new to this and was wondering if any one could help me out. I have a 2.3 Duratec and was wondering what are the cheapest upgrades that will give me the most horsepower gains out there. Or is their anything I can do without spending money that isnt going to hurt my car or make it sound like crap?

maybe i should be more specific. I know a little about engines i have rebuilt a few but they have all been V8's. so i know about the obvious upgrades i am asking if their is anything that is specific to the 2.3 liter PZEV Duratec engine that i may not know about. Oh and yes decals add tons of horsepower especially if you dont actually have the product you are advertising.[thumb]

Nat check out this site

It's got every aftermarket Duratec part available... poke through, see what catches your eye. If you have questions and want to see if anyone else tried it, do a search or ask in the Duratec Forum for input. But first and foremost Bookmark that site if you plan on modding your PZEV there[thumb] (So your engine is D23E on the site)

Search focal jet for ISGF delete, or Idle swirl generator flap delete or shop-vac tumble-flap delete or any iteration of those. Takes a little work, but cost is free. Works best when still generally stock car- maybe a cai. Otherwise works better with tuning.

Anybody ever dyno that mod? I bet it kills torque at mid-range RPM (below 4K where the flaps are closed) and furthermore I bet it posts minimal gains if any at high RPM.

What does everyone think about supercharging your foci? i know that they dont make one yet for the duratec but when they do i might buy one. But my concern is that the duratec flows so well that the power gained wont be worth the money.

it is really isn't a concern because there aren't any blower companies that are developing a kit and i don't think we'll be seeing one any time soon for the focus.

Dammit I'm mad now bc no bodys developing a supercharger kit for the focus. I think that a supercharger would give a little more usable power than a turbo considering our pressure limitations on the Duratec. Like spreading it throughout the powerband.

One of the big issues with a blower for this motor is packaging, there just isn't much room at the front of the motor. A vortec style unit would be the best because it could be placed in the stock intake/battery area.

What are your guys opinion about walter's (marcymotorsport) Balance shaft Delete kit.

it's only $30 with some shipping and an additional hour maybe two (took me 4+ however) on a regular oil change.

but the cause is worthwhile. I felt the difference and enjoy my smoother response from my car upon shifting gears. every little bit counts for performance.
