Oh I know, I was totally enthralled & scared by how much crap it pulled out of the front of the hood especially!

Clay barring is kinda addictive, I think I actually look forward to it... but then I look forward to Spring Cleaning, so I guess it's the same principle?

^^^ ditto. I've never clay barred a car before but the results everyone is talking about and what I've seen makes me want to do it. Great, if it's as addicting as Lil PZEV says then I have something else to worry about besides buying more parts.

I only do it once, occasionally twice a year. But it's not usually warm at 2 points far enough apart in the year for me to do it twice! That or it's warm on a day I don't have time to wash, clay & wax []

 

I did it once last year and the car had so much shit in the paint the whole bar was white. I just threw it out. I am hoping to do it again sometime this year also. we'll see how that goes.

joe, you need to wash your car more often, more then bi or tri weekly

 

yah I do...but in winter it's tough to keep clean. for sure I won't have to worry about that problem again though. When I bought it the guy I got it from NEVER waxed it once. he just took to to a quick clean and put the spray wax on it. that's why it was so bad. In the summer I keep it cleaner usually.

will this clay bar work on swirl marks on a black 06 zx3ses.Just bought it used had the windows tinted yesterday.Just need to get rid of swirl marks thanx

 

^possible, a lil elbow grease goes a ways!

 

clay bar just gets rid of all the grime and grit off your car and preps the surface for waxing so that way all the lil shit thats on you paint wont scratch while you are buffing and waxing

 

You'd need a polish (probably mild) for swirls - clay can't fix those buggers.

 

The polish wont get rid of the swirls in itself. It's a combination of a good polish, a good buffer, a good foam pad, and good "know-how" that will get rid of the swirls.

 

also works on windows too, and plastic trim. thats what i did, then apply rain x to your windows

Some people have told me that if you don't know what your doing with the clay bar that it will mess up your paint. Something about it can take off the clear coat?? I don't know I have never used one before but I hear that they really work. How do you guys do it so I don't mess anything up?

 

There are some professional grade clay bars that are aggressive and in the wrong hands can cause problems. any clay bar that you can buy from your local auto parts store are perfectally safe to use with out fear of any problems.

 

as long as you keep it lubricated, you'll be fine

I'll second the elbow grease for swirls.You could try a random orbit polisher if they are not to bad.

 

i cant wait till its nice and i have a day off and im not lazy and i dont have to got school and i dont have to clean up my house and i dont have to take my dogs for a walk- i am so clay baring my car-lol

any one know of a good product that removes tar?
I drove over a freshly paved road and now have blacktop tar inside my wheel wells and on my rear bumper have washed and elbowed many times
other ideas??

 

Have you tried claying the bumper? Sorry I can't be more helpful, but I'd definitely try that if you haven't already. I dunno if it can pull out tar, being so terribly sticky, "tar-like" and all.

If you have the weird fuzzy wheel well liners I have No idea how to get the tar out... that sounds like a mess[]

I bought a claybar and of course the weather turns bad again so I'm going to have to wait. Im also hoping to try a sap remover...cant believe this crazy weather thanks for the ideas/input
