Just purchased a 2004 ZX3 and am itching to get started with mods. I plan to start with an intake and had a question. I noticed searching thru the forums that most do not recommend buying the cheaper Bomz type intakes from EBAY etc. What is the real difference between this type and the more expensive ones. After all, it's just a pipe that gets air directly to the engine without the restrictions of the air box.

The main problem is that they are cheap knock offs.

They tend to break also, not just one or two but all of them.

Stick with quality parts from quality manufacturers.
[werd]... If you want a cheap intake, check out short rams, especially the MAC. Otherwise, save for something like a Volant [thumb].

Intakes

My advice is to get a MAC intake. Looks good, sounds great and is very reasonably priced. I have one and love it. If you get a used one you may be able to find it at a little less than $100.

If that is out of your range and you really want one, get the BOMZ. Most CAI of similar design have breaking issues. It is a dice roll.

I would try talking to Ray at www.myfordfocus.com. He has pretty good prices but awesome customer service and support. Check the site sponsors out. But, as for letting price be an indicator... the BOMZ is like $99.95 at New Edge Performance, isnt it?

The main advantage to not using e-bay is customer service and support. You have a better chance going with a more traditional company to get your money back, an exchange or credit. With E-bay... you buy at your own risk!
