Brake Calipers

Today when I was installing my lip kit, I decided that I'd also go ahead and paint the brake drums and brake calipers since I'd be having my wheels off. I was able to do my drums alright, but when I went to try and remove the calipers, I didn't have the correct Allen Wrench size . . .

There are two rubber inserts that each contain one Allen Wrench-style bolt. I tried to use a size 6mm and that was too loose (it moved freely), so I tried the "next" biggest size I had which happened to be a size 8mm and that was too big. So I went to ACE Hardware to pick up a size 7mm and they didn't have it!

So for those of you who have removed your calipers, what size Allen Wrench does it take to remove those two bolts? Is it the size 7mm (does it exist?) or do I need to use a Standard wrench size? Thanks in advance.

Cheers!

Anyone else have any ideas? It would really suck if it was a specialty tool that is required for this. [thumbd] I mean.. if the 6mm is too small and the 8mm is too big, then what could it be? It would make sense for it to be a 7mm . . . I'll have to call up Auto Zone and see what they have to say.

Cheers!

I did my front brakes and I'm pretty sure it was a 7mm and I'm pretty sure it was a b*7#h to find one in stores. If I remember correctly I eventully found it in a key ring set of allen wrenches from either Autozone, Pep Boys, or Checkers.

So I called up Auto Zone and they didn't have a 7mm Allen Wrench, which made me kind of sad, so I went searching at Sears for one. I was pleased to find many 7mm Allen Wrenches of many sizes and different kinds of packages. I finally have the right tools to remove my caliper for the painting process. w00t

Auto zone has them for 2 dollars they are not called 7mm though, i forget what size it is but i believe it is the smallest autozone carries or it was when i got mine. If i am right it is the 1/4 inch caliper bracket socket.

^^^ Pictures will come shortly (When I say shortly, I mean like a month :/) because I need to get a hold of a digital camera. But I would also like to have a few more things installed before I take pictures of everything. [thumb]
