Bluetooth question

Forgive me if this was asked before, but I did a search and didn't find anything (only a few posts about MFT, but I don't have that).

So the question is, does Sync Gen 1 (what comes in the SE- the 4" screen) support AVRCP 1.3 (sending artist/track info over bluetooth)? I just upgraded my cell phone which should support this, but my Focus this morning still just said "bluetooth audio."

I would try to check on syncmyride, but the website is down for maintenance until this evening. I fail finding an answer via Google for this as well.

Any thoughts?

Palm Pre2 running webOS 2.2.4. According to the phone's device info, it does support AVRCP.

I found one PDF from Ford that seemed to show phone compatibility with MFT, and of course it doesn't list the Pre2, but any phone that supports the proper protocols should work (assuming the car supports it, which is what I'm trying to figure out).

I'm not 100% certain if it does. Maybe somebody else can better answer your question. I think I read somewhere else that the bluetooth controller in the car is just a generic A2DP controller which let's it play nice with a plethora of devices.

That would be disappointing if it was just A2DP... But I guess it is a selling point to get people to opt for the MFT which I have found documentation that shows it supports AVRCP 1.3.

I was wondering the same thing. I have an iPhone4S

Not trying to threat jack, but this got me thinking about other things I've always wondered. I have the same SE setup as the OP.
-Does anyone know how to switch it, so that the device controls the track, not the HU when attached via USB?
-Do you have to say/start bluetooth audio every single time you get in your car? Or is there a way the system can just pick up where you left off by default?

Do you have to ask it start playing Bluetooth Audio EVERY FRIGGIN TIME?!

aHanDLe - mine pauses the phone when I shut down and continues automatically when I return to and start the car again (iPhone4, not 4S and MFT but don't know why either of those should make a difference).

When I do bluetooth audio with my iPhone 4 on 5.1.1 , I get Artist and Track info. Sometimes it shows the wrong Artist for 10 seconds.
Ditto (same phone and version of iOS) but it can be spotty for me. Sometimes it goes with unknown for both song title and artist, sometimes it shows the first song played and doesn't update after that one regardless of how many songs play, and sometimes it works flawlessly - updating with each song. No discernable pattern that I've been able to find. Just does its (sometimes good sometimes bad) thing.

I may have uncovered a little more information. As per this FAQ on syncmyride (you might have to log in):

http://www.syncmyride.com/Own/Modules/FaqManagement/FaqDetail.aspx?faqId=27

It shows that they don't implement MAP in "older" versions of Sync, and I found this press release:

http://corporate.ford.com/news-center/press-releases-detail/pr-new-sync-software-update-adds-35451

That shows V3.2.2 (not available to us) is the first version to implement MAP (and probably the AVRCP protocol I'm more interested in). So the real question is... why do we not get 3.2.2 and 2011 MY cars (like Fiesta) get it?

New update from me for all this... my car randomly decided to start telling me about text messages. Not sure what exactly changed (I didn't change anything on my phone, didn't repair the phone, etc). So that means 3.1.1 supports MAP just like 3.2.2.
It spoke the text message to me, then displayed the sender on the screen. Ironically, you'd think you should be able to hit the "call/answer" button and it would call the person for you, but it doesn't. Yet the "hang up" button sent it back to radio.

Now the real question is, does sync without MFT support AVRCP 1.3/1.4 or just 1.0? Looks like a couple users above confirmed that MFT supports at least 1.3.

Copernicium, mine does not. It pauses the track, but when I return it just reads, "LineIn" or something like that. I have to then go through allll the prompts either manually, or say bluetooth audio for it to continue playing... sucks

Hmmm, maybe there is a difference DaeHan. See post #3 here:

http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1270177

Seems to be your exact problem. BTW, I'm assuming you have BT autoplay set to on? Also, know anyone with an iPhone4 that you could pair to your car to see if that one resumes play after restarting? Would be interesting to try.....

Autoplay is also an option for vehicles equipped with MyFord (Gen1). Give the voice command AUTOPLAY, the system will then prompt you to turn it on or off. Keep in mind, this is device-dependent feature.

If you have any additional questions, let me know.

Jaclyn, any news on this front? Has engineering passed along any pertinent updates for us?

I appreciate the link you provided. I perused the site a bit, but it's difficult to ascertain any useful information because it's a mishmash of varying models and Sync versions.

Thanks Kramer2K for explaining exactly what I've noticed on my end too.
Also, thanks for providing answers and keeping an eye on this thread, Jaclyn (FordIVTteam).

So, to follow up on this, if older model year cars with SYNC Gen 1 are getting 3.2.x, then why has there been zero updates for the 2012 Focus which has been out for over a year now? I can understand there being SOME differences, but this silence about OUR car has been annoying.

Edit: It was in October of 2011 that the press announcement went out about Gen 1 3.2.2 adding Bluetooth MAP support, yet new model cars with gen 1 got an older version, and have not seen a single update?

My MFT will sometimes show artist and track and sometimes it will show the artist and track from a song played last week! It will sometimes show ????? and other crazy characters. So although mine sometimes works, it is also hit and miss. I find it works best if you switch off BT to another source before shutting the car off and then after starting the car select BT but do not yet have your phone playing anything. Once it is connected and selected you can play music. This generally works for me, but I also know that MTF works different for every person it seems. I have an iPhone 4.

The issue being talked about is for those of us with SYNC Gen 1(the version without MyFord Touch). MFT is considered Gen 2 and has its own set of issues, but MFT is also seeing active development to fix the issues, while many of us have newer cars with 3-year-old versions of the software.

Let's be pragmatic here, everybody. Ford ain't gonna update anything to do with Sync. If it doesn't come with the car, you're not getting it. All the Ford reps are doing is just blowing hot air.

Edit: I find it kinda amusing that Ford even has reps on this site, it's like an acknowledgment that most deanships are awful and to get any semblance of reasonable support you have to go to a 3rd party forum, contacting a Ford rep, to ask for help. "Escalating" an issue for a simple warranty fix? Sad.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but this is annoying me to no end.

When I return to my car (MFT equipped) and turn on audio it defaults to AM. I then have to change it to BT audio.

Is there still no way to fix this? Can I do things a bit differently (leave audio on, use voice commands, etc.) to make this less annoying? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks for testing that! It sounds as though your system is working as intended. If the radio is not on when you enter the car, it's not going to search for the media portion of you phone, thus causing you to have to request Bluetooth audio every time. You can use the voice command BLUETOOTH AUDIO instead of using the touchscreen or paddles.
