I have the BAT Inc kit...300mm rotors with PBR dual-piston calipers (same from the '99-'04 Mustang GT), fits under 16" wheels. Its considerably less than most of the other kits, $700-800 depending on what rotors/pads you want. Easy to install...just requires modification to the stock spindles rather than replacement with SVT spindles.

I really like the look of the Brembo kit, but its way too much money for me to justifiy. Especially since I don't race my car or auto-x.

you also lose hp at the whees with big brake kits around 12hp they way the rotors are the bigger revolution takes more hp. there was a thing on speed with brakes and sean hyland

sounds reasonable by looking at f2's dyno... 12 hp sounds very approximate.

Parts installed for this DYNO chart....F2 cold air intake, FC throttle body, F2 4-1 header, F2 exhaust and F2 SCT file. I am real pleased with this first file as the torque numbers are good, we also have some hp lose because of the big brake kit and 18x8 inch wheels and tires. So using 16 or 17 inch wheels will have better numbers. So below you will find the DYNO chart for the 87 octane file. MAX HP=150.85 MAX TQ=148.61

I saw that, they did it on an Acura RSX, it may cause a little lose in power but it is worth it if you race the car. Personally I would get the svt kit, it is all you need for normal driving, everything else would be overkill imo, unless you are tracking the car, then I could see using it. Also I know KVR made a kit to do it, but I haven't checked in a while on that.

well i still have y rear drums. my ebc sotted rotors and greenstuff pads are doing the tric for my driving.driving in south florida and doing over the speed iit might as well be race braking every idiot on the road drives down here.wether you drive slow or fast peope jump out and i love my set up.reaer discs are over kill already.i now a person driving a 9 sec flat stang whats his brake set up stock 80 something 4 cyinder brakes disck up front and drums and back well a parachute for the track but rear disc are honestly over rated from what i hear.i just wish ford put them on all the focus anyways.

I don't know, I'd normally agree that adding a big brake kit is only justified when you take the car to the track on a regular basis, but its a bit different in the case of the '00-'04 Focus. The brakes are terrible on the non-SVT models, both the pads and rotors are far too small for even normal street driving (unless you drive like an old lady...10 MPH under the limit.) Ford even made it a big point that they increased the front brake size on the '05+ Foci as an added saftey feature.

Since installing my BAT kit, I've been in at least three hard-stops where the stock brakes would've resulted in an accident of some kind. I'll gladly take a small hit in HP in exchange for avoiding accidents.

first, im going turbo. And im not using a t3, and im building the engine, sooo, ill eventually be oever the 300 whp mark. So 12hp loss to the ability to brake better at high speeds seems like a fair turn about.

Brembo doesnt make a big brake kit, only rotors as far as i can find.

Ill have to check the batinc one.

Too small for 18's? Mine look pretty good behind the 18's. Plus, svo has the complete svt conversion now for a really good price.

If you're an SCCA member, don't forget to check and see who has discounts for you. I'm shocked at how many benefits and deals I get from just knowing to ask for the member discount.

Reducing braking distance is mostly a function of tire grip, brake balance, ABS, and suspension geometry. For instance in the last SCC Street Car Challenge, the brake distance winner was the MR2 with the stock brake setup, vs. other cars with $6K brake systems. Big brakes are for big sticky tires and fade prevention.

TCE Performance Products has a kit that uses Wilwood calipers as well. 4 piston calipers with choice of 12.2" or 13" (more $) rotors. The kit seems a little expensive, though. The Baer kit looks promising.

The last time I had my wheels off, I measured the spacing between the mounting tabs - 3.5" Wilwood offers calipers with 3.5" mounting tabs. I'm thinking that I can just mount the Wilwood calipers on my SVT rotors - has anyone tried this?

Otherwise, I should say that the EBC slotted/dimpled rotors and the Mintex pads I am currently using work very well. No fade and instant bite. The pads do need to warm up on really cold days (<20 degrees), but even on the hottest days, the brakes never felt spongy. I don't track my car, but the Boone Co. Sheriff loves to get me when they can.

If you want the Brembo kit, you have to look for them for the SVT. Then you'll also need to get SVT front spindles to mount them, but IMO its a little absurd to spend $1500-2000 on front brakes alone. If you're throwing that much money at your front brakes you had better have a sponsor or you race your car and get cash prizes.

I'd say either get the SVT kit from Ford Racing, the BAT kit or the Baer kit...they're all under $1000 and offer increased braking without raping your wallet.
