It seems like shorty headers don't get any respect around here. I put in my FR shorty header about a month ago and I got a nice surprise better gas mileage. I was averaging about 22 MPG on my daily drive and now 24-26 with the header. My normal drive is about 50% highway and the rest is city/residential. It's only been a month so I plan to keep logging MPG and I have not been on a road trip yet either to test hwy mileage.

I was only expecting minimal low end power increase or nothing at all but so far I really like the shorty. Acceleration is much smoother all around and my RPM flutter and hesitation issues at lower speeds are gone. I guess my engine just needed to breathe a little more. My other mods are Volant intake and Magnaflow 2.25 catback

Nope just the FR shorty ceramic coated header, I got a really good deal on ebay. My stock cat is in great shape after 100K but several have said it will burn out so I figure if that happens I will get a Magnaflow.

I'm no engineer but a less restrictive design and larger longer tubes than stock should mean more airflow. I'm not saying I got 15 whp and 20 lb-ft or anything but its certainly an improvement that can be felt in daily driving. It has a nice sound too.

I just wanted to share since most of the threads I've seen here are negative but most of the posters don't seem to have a shorty. I have no doubt that a long tube header will give better results but for various reasons some people can't run one.
