I've been experiencing some problems with my head unit. It's the stock 6 cd "audiophile" system. I get MANY "bad disc" codes, it skips often, and everything I've used in it, plays just fine in other cars or at home or on my PC..My dad had three different head units in his Ford truck over the term of a lease, is Ford known for having issues with their radios ? Anyone else having similar problems and if so, what's been resolved ? Thanks !

This happenned once to me...

I had finished burning a new music cd and it had worked perfectly everywhere...but for some strange reason when i had put it in the car radio it skipped nearly every 3-5 secs. Now, at the time i knew the disc was fine...but i took it out and tried it out again on my pc, my normal radio and there was nothing wrong with it. So being confident that it wasn't the disc i put it back in the radio to see if it still gave me the problem...but strangely enough the cd worked perfectly -_-

I don't really know what happenned...but i guess the first time i put it in it got knocked off balance somehow and just didn't settle in properly...

Its very frustrating to say the least. I think the next oil change I'll bring it up and have them check it out. I know they typically will simply order a new head unit and swap it out, there's no real repair done anymore. I may try the battery thing too, who knows, right ?

I was thinking about gettin the 6 cd changer but wasnt sure if it would read burnt cd's, and i still can't tell if it does or not. is it suppose to, or are these just problems with the unit you guys have?
accoding to the information provided in your profile, you have an 01 focus. that means the 05 mp3 6 dsic (which tehy are speaking about here), would not apply. however, if you got the 00-04 6 disc (the 6006), it will read non-mp3 file type burnt cd's (as long as they aren't thicker than normal store-bought cd's and they don't have labels on them other than marker writing on the cd).

yeah I had a big problem with my audiophile 6 cd system...I was playing a burnt cd, it started to skip and when I wanted to take it out to see if it was scratched or anything like that, it got stuck all together..I had to go to the dealer and they took it out and just swapped the jammed unit with another, the dude at the dealer told me that most burnt cds are too thick and throw off the unit as stated earlier...

I just talked to my dad who has a 2005 F-150 with the same 6 disk MP3 HU in the 2005 Focus. He told me that he uses Nero to burn the cds, and this doesn't make any sence to me, but he said if he burns them using Nero Express as a "Data Disk" he get's the Bad Disk error, but if he burns them using Nero Express as a "MP3 Disk" they play just fine. I hope this helps.

My head unit was wigging out the first couple of days I had my SVTF...the skipping, CD Error Messages. I brought it in and they replaced with New Unit, no problems until today; there are now three CD's stuck in the changer, and it is not spitting the little suckers out!!

Aggravation... any help?

the 05' models use a headunit made by sony... enough said. they are crap as far as I am conserned. It seems like a lot of sony products have a hard time reading CD-R disks. My fathers home DVD player that holds 300 disks...complicated as hell to operate, and expensive, won't read CD-R disks.

Scott: Great! Why don't you just go ahead and send it on over! I've been using Ziploc bags...they're watertight, but I keep mixing my $ in with my sandwiches... [;)]

Well, that depends...did you want Ham n' Swiss ($5), Chicken w/ Bacon ($10), or the Classic Club ($20) ? I've also got Spam Sandwiches, but they usually mix with the coins...

Yeah, Go PostWhores! ;O)

Yeah, I just took out my HU, took out the CD's, and reinstalled it... nothing. Radio works fine, but anytime you try a CD Function, it grinds and clicks, and yells at me, "CD ERROR." Dang it...

Looks I'm off to AfterMarket Land... care for a Picnic? You bring the wallet, and I'll bring the SpamSandwiches.
