This forum is such a great source of info and has saved my hyde many a time.
I have a question concerning the airbag control module. Last week my 2002 Ford Focus' airbag light and seatbelt reminder would not go off (for no apparent reason). The airbag light would not flash but rather just remain on all the time.
Took it to the garage and they said the seat belt buckle (tensioner) was at fault. They changed the piece which did not solve the problem. Then they said that the module was at fault after finally scanning the car. They quoted that the piece cost 400$ plus labor. At that point I said I'll wait and try to change the piece myself. I was able to locate a used module at a scrap yard with the exact model # as mine from a 2002 Focus.
My question is ...Will swapping out the piece solve my problem? The sticker on the module states that a Ford dealer has to reprogram it and that it cannot be used in another car. Has anyone changed this piece with a used unit and what was the result?

i have changed them before, you have to be sure that the car it came from has the same airbag set up yours. dose yours have just front bags or front and side bags (lable on the side of the front seats). if your sure they are both the same, match the numbers on the module, disconnect the battery, and swap the module, when you are done reconnect the battery. then turn on the car, it should be fine, if that was the problem. on a side note make sure that both seats are pluged in under the seat, that is part of the airbag system.

Thanks for the response. The car I was able to take it off of was a hatchback (mine is a sedan). Unfortunately I did not pay attention if the car had side airbags. I guess I'll do as you said and just plug it in and hope for the best.

are we talking about the module underneath the center council by the ebrake and shifter? if so, you can swap them, though, i doubt thats the problem. if you have urs and its not the right one, pm, and i have a spare you could have. its only got the front airbags, the front 2, if thats what you need, you can haveit for dirt cheap!

Just a little update. Installed the part this morning and everything worked out perfectly. Airbag light is gone and no more seat belt reminder. Not bad for 10$ (compared to 400$) Thanks again for everyone's help.
