Thats an awesome way to test. You could probably drop your console down. Pop the mic up and fit the foam over the mic. Then snap it back in place and achieve the same if not better results.
Great idea thanks!

I was told by my daughter that when I was talking she heard a lot of (static)... When I was not talking she did not hear it....
How does that fit into your ideas????
I only get complaints from one person and they are a complainer by nature. They only seem to notice wind sound when I am going highway speed. That is what I am testing against.

FWIW, when my wife calls me from our Focus the only time I hear any back ground noise is if she has the sun roof open at any speed over 20 or speeds over 35 if the side windows are open.
I would not be using sync to talk with windows or moon roof open lol.

Nothing beats sitting on the center arm rest with your head sticking up through the roof working on this. lol

So how where the results of your sound quality with the foam in place?
A quick call home didn't sound much different on the answering machine but the wifey heard me better over the phone even with the sunroof open[???:)]

I did notice a huge improvement in sync voice commands. Before I had longer pauses often followed by sync repeating something different than I was asking for[bigcry]. But since the insulation installation it seems to get my requests right 95% of the time[thumb]

I have yet to try mine on the highway. I now want to try cacophonous's trick with the foam wrap on the mic.

Well if she drives under 20 MPH you are good to go.
Funny!

Great idea thanks!

The complainer is actually just honest by nature...everyone else is just being nice 'cause they probably know you have a new car and they dont want to be rude...

Hello everyone!

My eyeballs did this, [ohcrap], when I read the dynamite post. Then I read the rest of the thread; now, I understand. lol

This is a general request to all of those who have the microphone wind noise issue. Send me a PM with the VIN, current mileage, as well as your personal and dealer contact and I'll be more than happy to escalate your concern to the Customer Service Manager in your area.

... Works like a champ. No more yelling at my MFT on the highway.. . "Tuning to... 'Coffee House'. NOT COFFEE HOUSE DAMMIT! HOWARD 100! HOW DID YOU GET 'COFFEE HOUSE' FROM 'HOWARD 100'!?! AARRGGHHH!!!"
Hey FZJ80,

I really do sympathize, but the depiction is to hilarious! [:D]

Send me a PM with the requested info if you need assistance with this.

Take care everyone!

Noemi

I was able to get the sunglass console down. It was at first a PITA, but I looked at the pics of it and saw where the tabs on the side were and put a small screwdriver in there and got them to pop. What I did was find where the side tab was and put the screwdriver blade there and then pushed down on the handle and it made a loud pop and came out. I about sh_t my pants, cause I thought I broke it, but it was okay. Once I got the side tabs out the rest was not bad. Once I got it down I stuffed Polyfill (the stuff in pillows) that I bought to use on my sub box in my truck and just stuffed it full. I still get some noise on the hyw at 70+, but it is a vast improvement over what is was, but I can live with it. It could be the phone cause some days are better than others and my wife has an old HTC Hero.
BE CAREFUL stuffing Polyfill in that opening if you have a sunroof. It can easily get caught in the sunroof track/motor and leave your sunroof inoperable.
Don't ask how I learned that [shhh]

So how fun was it fishing that stuff out. Did you have to take it to the dealer or were you able to fix it yourself.
The sunroof / track assembly had to be replaced by the dealer. They fixed it under warranty, but if I had to do it all over... I'd just deal with the wind noise.

I thought the MFT update was going to address some microphone performance issues. Has anyone upgraded and tested the voice quality at highway speed?

Just a quick update..I got the mft update on Wednesday and it seemed to have resolved all of the wind noise issues with the Bluetooth!! I was using it all day yesterday and everybody said that I sound great. Hope this helps.

Wow seriously? Anyone else on this thread with the latest MFT upgrade confirm the same?

I just upgraded MFT and called a co-worker going 50mph, no complaints at all.

Next time I'm out, I'll try the voicemail trick and let you know how it sounds.

Wow if thats the case that would be freakin Awesome!.

THis is why I wish Ford would release a Change Log so we can see what the new version of MFT actually fixed or improved, etc.

Oh by the way Robbiew. Before the upgrade did you ever have anyone complain of the road noise?

Handsfree was absolutely unusable above 25mph.

My conversations consisted of me talking and the other party saying:
What..? WHAT...? WHERE ARE YOU??

After about 3 calls I stopped using the handsfree altogether.

Today, I talked to my manager while driving on the highway and never once did he pause and ask me to repeat. [thumb]

I have the MFT update and my complainer said it still sounds the same. Which is road noise at highway speeds. I seriously doubt a software update would change the way a mic sounds with road noise.

On the bright side I am still testing using foam on the cabin side of the mic and my complainer said it sounds much better at highway speed.

Yeah I have my doubts too that the MFT upgrade would even address the BT handsfree because the MFT update was not vehicle specific. For all we know the Taurus, Fusion, Edge, etc all have great sound quality on the highway and no customer complaints.

Robbie - If you get a chance to dial into your VM or something where you can play back your own msg from the car. Please let me know what your thoughts are. I know your only going based on what you've experienced and I would really like to think that the MFT had something to do with the improvement.

This is listed in the MFT Performance Upgrade Changes:

- Improved phone call quality and voice recognition using enhanced noise and echo cancellation technology

I plan to do a voicemail test at various speeds and post my results.
