Does anyone know how to make the 3rd brake light pulse when braking? Is it a bulb?

Moved to the MkIII section (not an Interior Mod)

Flashing of brake lights is usually done with an added electronic module, don't know how that would react with the MkIII electronics.

Search eBay and YouTube for GS-100A. It's a small box that fits in line to what ever LEDs you want to flash. I've ordered some rear bumper LED light/reflectors for this. I tapped into the wires from the rear light cluster and sent the wires through the rubber grommet in the rear floor where the wires for the parking sensors go. If you want the rear centre brake light to flash, just find the wires for that. It doesn't effect the other lights or give any problems for the rear of the electronics.

Please be careful. Reverendhtc has got it right. Ford has modulated voltage so many modules either do not work, or work until the car is running then zippo, nada. After three expensive ones that did not work, I know this one works and it's cheap. But this vendor not selling anymore. Look at the picture carefully and buy only one that matches. See the following thread.

The module I bought:

So I managed to get everything fitted. I initially tapped into the rear brake wires located behind the rear right side trunk carpet. As previously mentioned the result was that the LED lights flashed with the engine off, but failed to work with the engine running. I measured a voltage drop on the output of the GS-100A box when the engine was running and there wasn't enough voltage to run the LEDs.

I decided to see if an additional 12v relay would help to provide enough voltage from a circuit directly from the battery. I found a source behind the rear left trunk side carpet. I found a spare relay slot in a box behind this area. I then tapped into the brake light wires on the same side and ran the wires out through an unused rubber grommet in the trunk floor. Using the relay I was able to get the lights to flash with the engine running.

Here are a few pics and a video to illustrate better.

Original location fail.

OEM reflector removed and holes cut for wires.

Hole in the trunk floor wires were sent through.

Wiring complete and box remounted. The new relay is the one with the clear casing. The GS-100A box is mounted in the loom under the box.

Carpet and trims replaced.

Outside view with lights / reflectors in place (sorry about the dirt :))

My helper .... not helping that much as usual!

Finally a short video clip.

I'm happy with the results. Not as in your face as some flashing brake lights, more of a gentle reminder for vehicles behind.

The lights are easy to fit. Just push out the old reflectors from behind the bumper and push in the new items. The trim removal and wiring is straightforward but takes time. Don't attempt if you are not confident with cutting and splicing wires. I soldered all my connections for longevity.

Which seller did you go with off eBay?

Mine came with a dealer installed blinking led brake light and it blinks 3x on initial braking and then is solid if the pedal is pressed more than once in a preset of time so it's not constantly blinking.
