2014 Ford Focus SE spring comparison...

*EDIT*
Bottom line. They do not fit a 2014 Ford Focus SE 5 door with a build date of 07.23.13. The TOP perch is NOT the issue. The bottom perch is NOT large enough to house the spring. Once in however, they rub the car.

I will apologize now for no pictures BUT please realize I dove right in, had to manipulate them to fit on the bottom perch, run into normal mechanical install issues (things never go right), and then after they were in... realized the were going to rub on the side of the firewall.

The bottom perch of the shock/strut is just too small to house these things. On top of that, the diameter of the overall spring is larger than stock.. causing it to rub when compressed.

These might fit a small portion of 2014s, but not mine. Trust me, I tried. I even thought about modifying other things.. but decided not too with this new of a car.

In the end, my only option at this point is Coilovers. The only one I am finding that indicates a 2014 fitment is Ksports. Depending on how the night goes, they may be ordered soon.... I wish I could say STs would fit but I am not finding anything stating they do. I am not concerned about the bottom but rather the top mount. I just don't know if that has changed too.

I just can't believe FORD changed this part of the vehicle for ~6 months of production. It just doesn't make sense. Without seeing a 2013, and basing just on the diameter of these springs, everything has a much smaller diameter.

Hope this helps out some that were waiting on my find. Again, I was along during install and fighting a lot of things... so I just never picked up the phone/camera. Trust me, if they fit you would have photos of it. They just don't and I am bummed....[sadpanda]

I will be happy to answer any questions people might have. I am sure I am leaving something out.

Part number was 4.13435 - Eibach Sportlines. 2012-2013 Ford Focus HB. I am open to selling these at a discounted rate. But looking at shipping, it is going to kill me to go too low. In essence, I am looking at ~35-40 to ship to the midwest. I may try and sell them locally first. No miles on them but there is some minor scuffs due to install... of ONE spring only.

Forgot that I did take some shots of the spring fitment:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So, I researched my vehicle via http://www.etis.ford.com/. According to my VIN entry (then selecting "There are more minor features for this vehicle, click to expand this list." on the bottom right), I found the following regarding my springs:

BV61-5310-NG* Left Front Coil
BV61-5310-NG* Right Front Coil
BV61-5560-NG* Left Rear Coil Spring
BV61-5560-NG* Right Rr Coil Spring

Build Date: 23.07.2013

Would it be too much trouble to ask someone with a 2012/13 to plug in their VIN and compare the coils? In another thread there was suggestion the top hats/bushings may be different thus not allowing us (2014 owners) to use springs from Steeds/H&R and the like.

If the springs are the same, it might suggest mechnic(s) error - essentially freeing us 2014 owners up to purchase away. Anyone willing to help? More than one owner would be appreciated in case there is some differences.

*I know this probably belongs in the suspension forum BUT... I think this will get much more exposure here. So, I am hoping it stays.

I may have found my own answer. Looking at Ford parts... the following is the Ford part number for a 2013 Ford Focus SE:

Front Spring
BV61-5310-NG* Left Front Coil, BV61-5310-NG* Right Front Coil (Front)
Vehicle Build Date between: 3/27/2012 and 8/17/2012

Looks to me like the mechanic that could not put in the springs on a 2014 did not know what they were doing. This is just the tip of the iceberg though. The more info the better.

I hope you find out more info! thanks for doing this!

^^^Thank you!

Anyone know the NF vs NG designation? Looks to me as a build date issue. Not fitment - as a whole on edumacated guess.

I say this because ~3 months (1 quarter) after the above post, my vehicle was produced with NG. That appears to be date... Not build difference

Jburks, I think the mechanic that tried to install your springs didn't know what he was doing. By all accounts, the springs are the same - only dampening for touring/sport are different. Hence the NG vs NF codes. Also, throw you VIN in and see what results you get back on your springs. I would be interested to see.

If the springs are the same, they wouldn't use them if the top hats/bushing were different... As they too wouldn't fit.

By all accounts, any aftermarket spring for a 2012/13 should work for a 2014. If I'm lucky, at the end of the month I will order up some Steeda springs and let everyone know how it goes. I suspect just fine.

All things add up as well. With the additional threads listed above it further confirms the NG designation is the touring suspension.. Ford Etis also confirms (by actually listing the Touring Suspension) this for my vehicle.

actually i was not the one who installed the springs on my '14. i have yet to buy some because i read they wont work. I will be awaiting your updates to see if the springs will fit your car!

#10 ·
My bad. I was thinking it was you for some reason. I can't keep it all straight at times lol. Well, I am hoping to get some springs at the end of the month but there is no guarantee. If someone beats me to it, I am pretty confident they will be OK.

I do go back and forth on Steeda and Eibach. I don't want anything extreme, yet I love the look of the tire gap being closed. Not sure if Steeda would do that for me or not.

There is always conflict going on in my head.... [scratch]

Nice well if they work for you, i'll probably be buying mine shortly after. I was thinking Steeda. The Eibach sportlines defintely give it a nice drop but it's alittle to much for me. I know the Eibach pro's are about the same as the Steeda so i might go with them. I'm just looking for a slightly lower look. I'm going to do springs and spacers and and should be just right. It's my daily driver so i dont want to go to low. I work in the woods and drive on old crappy DNR roads so i cant go to low.

Depends on what you like - or what you significant other will put up with! Being an old fellow, ride was as important as the look, and I was well surprised with my install on my e30 several years ago.

Which was begat by the price. I am doing a group buy, if you're price sensitive (check the group buy forum there...). Just to add to the anguish. :)

If anyone is interested in a lightly used Eibach Pro-Kit, I have a set that I bought off the forum. My '12 was totaled before I could install them. PM me for info.
Will they fit a 14? What is the drop amount?

#26 ·
Well evilO is going to be the test subject for this. He ordered Eibach Sportlines for his '14 so if those fit when he installs them then there is no reason why any other spring made for the 12-13 wont fit too. Just have to hold out for a couple weeks until he gets his installed.

#34 ·
Yep. I will be running stockers. I am expecting it to be a bit bouncy BUT according to most others doing the same, the ride is compliant and NOT bouncy. I do have the touring package... while I know the spring rating is higher, I am not sure if the dampers are different.

I think I will be OK. I watched this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1uN1qSz2X4&feature=youtube_gdata_player and they did the same. While this install is on a ST, the concept is the same.

If I do not like the rebound, I may swap out the shocks for Koni Yellows (full stiff).

I will do my best to include pics, impressions, and/or failures.

#35 ·
So you said in a earlier post it looked like the dampers were the only difference between the 14 and the 12-13. Are you going to replace those?

#36 ·
Hmmm I don't remember saying that. However, I do NOT plan on changing the shocks. At this point, everything points to the springs being same. If they aren't I am out 196. Purchasing shocks along with springs, only to find out something is different is WAY to costly.

At this point in the game, I have not seen any evidence that supports the shocks/dampers are different. Nor have I seen anything that says the springs are different... perches, bushings, etc.

I should know in a few short days. Springs are due here Monday. Hopefully they will be in no later than a week from this Sunday.

If they don't work, I am sure there is someone out there with a 2012-13 that will take them off my hands at a discounted price.

Fellas, I can say that my ride is NOT bouncy on stock struts (again, why I like Vogtlands). Vogtland also has dampers matched to their springs, ala the SVT suspenstion kits - and I love factory SVT handling - and I wish I'd popped for that (well, either the dampers too or the orange SVT/EAP I drove a few years ago...).

Matched components just work better.

Since evilO (appropriately named as of the moment - love you dearly, but you've killed my vibe!) has procured springs at essentially my group buy price with shipping included, would y'all have more interest if I got them $199/$189 shipped?

Let me know (I do have a note in to them).

Finally, Vogtland does have coilovers for the non-ST Mk3. I'd love to get a set myself, but taxes this year have taken a severe bite out of the budget, so I won't be installing them for a while/no first hand account from me. Price is about $1000 (give or take), dampers included, 2yr warranty, etc... but if somebody wants to take a shot before I do, let me know and I'll see about getting a deal on them.

Cheers!

Haha... too funny. I don't think the Sportlines will be bouncy. Too many threads (and experience elsewhere) indicating such. Things could happen though. If they do, I will let you know.

Vogtland is solid. I just decided on Eibach due to drop and price. I just hope they fit... hahaha!

Lord knows I have done my research!

SaraHolly, in the interest of furthering interest in my group buy (in the appropriate section...), what say I make you, and only you, a one time deal, and for which you in return you post up on your experiences?

The deal is I sell you Vogtlands for 1/2 of list price, or about $115 + shipping.

What do you think? What questions do you have?

Cheers.
