so ive been looking like crazy and cant seem to find what im looking for. just joined the forum to see if the focus fanatics can help me out here.

my girlfriend has a 2004 focus SE. its got the standard stereo, not the blaupunkt, and no factory subwoofer. im trying to find a wire harness that fits so i can hook up a aftermarket radio, yet ive come up with nothing. ive read the stickies already and the harnesses listed for 00-04's are NOT the right plugs. and neither is the ones for 05's and up.

what she has on the back of her stock stereo are 3 plugs. each of them are a different width. i will try and get a picture up as soon as i can to show you guys what i mean, but hopefully u can understand what im talking about.

im trying to avoid cutting off the stock plugs. all help is appreciated guys! thanks.

X2 crutchfield has everything, especially if you haven't bought the aftermarket unit yet, then they usually give you all the install stuff (wires, adapters, even the thing to put it in if it's a single DIN unit)

2004 lists as a Metra 70-1770, std Ford harness adapter. If you have a late/and or amplified model it could be a 70-5520 + a 70-5523 or just buy a 70-5521 which has both. The VW style plug mentioned is probably a 70-1784, pictures would help.

in the 04 they used two harnesses. the standard ford harness if it's the basic system or the VW harness if it had the Blaupunkt system in it. if you have the basic system then you should have two main plugs in it. one is yellow the other is black. that standard harness you have is the correct one for it. black goes to yellow and grey goes to black plug. just line up the release tab and you're good.

thanks guys, the harness i had did work like kipp said. they just fit together a little odd. nothing like ive ever seen before.

anyway. i got it all wired up now and the radio turns on and functions properly yet no sound comes out the speakers. ive heard possibilties of there being a factory amp that needs to be disconnected??
