Does anyone think 200 WHP is possible on these cars? I have seen numbers from _RED_ and Focusboy that are around 180. I noticed RED does not have a header yet and Focusboy doesnt seem to have a tune yet so maybe once they both get those things done they would be closer to 200? what if they added a ported throtle body to the mix and then updated the tune for that? I just bought my focus a week ago and have been on this forum a lot trying to get ideas for my car and i really want to get 200 WHP out of this car but not sure if it can be done. Maybe mid 180's to 190 is more realisitc.

Insurance on a fox is not 200 a year even on a basic plan, I was paying over 400 every 6 for basic coverage living in a town with a population of 3,000 cheapest damn insurance ever. Even under my Dads name it was still 240$ every 6 and hes 65 and never had a ticket or an accident. A stock fox would keep up with an ST but it is also a 20+ year old car, a 3000$ fox would be a POS. Random electrical not working, leaks, gas hog, ect.

I am not arguing with you that a turbo is more reliable, in fact if you look a few post back I was the one stating that turbo-charged cars are not reliable, literally due to the fact of boost leaks and random small parts breaking. and constant little tune updates.

Although I would rather drive a newer (my 03 Lancer)turbo'd car than ever drive my Mustang. I also owned a Camaro Z28 another car you can pick up for 3-4K that would rape a Foxbody but that's whole another set of worries. Optisparks, spark plugs, transmissions, differentials, ect. Fact is a 25 year old 3000$ car that is a pony car is not going to be reliable.

The only good thing about Québec is cheap insurance since we have the no fault clause which means that your own insurance pays for your own damages we can't get sued. I totally agree on the POS and their rotten chassis, strut towers and so on. In an ideal scenario is to own a good DD and that problematic car to be used once in a while.

Best bang for the buck would be to cut some weight by going with i.e: lightweight battery, lightweight seats, some cf parts, lightweight wheels, remove spare, remove toolbox, removing of soundening, removing AC etc..but doing all this will make the car unsuitable as a DD. Doing that and throw all kinds of bolt ons and spraying some NOS might get you on PAR with ST-GTI but at that point might as well sell the car and start with something faster.

U seriously think it would take all that????[poke] the way u say it no focus owner should upgrade their car and just buy something faster but wait if they bought a mustang then might as well not upgrade that either and buy a ferrari...oh but wait they can get something faster..... my point is ppl that say buy something faster are pretty stupid.

That is true of primary and secondary collectors. You can have too large or too small, too short or too long of either or both. Outside of that your cat-back just needs to be at least large enough to not cause a restriction.

We won't be beating any Camry's, but we might be relatively near a GTI.
I can think of many camry's we can beat. Yeah the v6 will be faster but with boltons and a tune it should be a lot closer.

Not if that quoted 14.3 1/4 mile time is accurate. It still wouldn't be close. I have an n/a mk3, it looks great, gets great gas mileage, and has enough power to move out of the way.

i/h/e/tune will get u high 14's for sure. I consider that a close race with a camry. 14.3 is one of the faster times for a camry, I would bet average person will be in the 14.5-14.8 area and if you can run high 14's it is definately a drivers race.

Why do I feel like I am always fighting someone about possible mk3 1/4 time.... we can run high 14s with the boltons mentioned, people dont give this car enough credit.

Forgive me for back-reading, I'm bored ... stupid rain.

You know as well as I, bench racing is the answer. You look at the 'post your dyno' and 'post your 1/4 miles times' threads and you don't see much activity. But you'll see thousands of people giving advice, virtually none of which proven or verifiable by themsleves.
As always, if you want an answer you have to just do it yourself.

My goal has always been 200whp. And as far as I'm aware, I'm the closest active member to that point with a zetec. I've said more than a few times that my last dyno is low compared to what the car is at now, but I can't back any of that up until I actually dyno. But a dyno now is just a waste because I have a few other things I want to do first.
But still, I'm pretty confident I can get there on what I have. Just need to get my tune right and I feel I'll find my missing HP.
FWIW, my dyno is now 4 years old and the last time I was at the track was 3 years ago. Lots has changed since then.

Far as any track times go, you can speculate all you want. But W/O knowing weight it's all moot. A guy who pulls everything they can almost always runs faster than a full weight car, but the same/similar MPH.

And then there's the 'well my buddy' guys. Just ignore those types of people.

Didn't miss a shift and had minimum wheel spin. Mazda Speed 3 ran a 15.4 and a intake/tuned st went high 14's. Drag racing isn't cookie cutter stuff. Many variables come into play is my point. Just because someone at Atco raceway runs a 14.9 in an mk3 doesn't mean the rest of the cars running 15.5 should, even with the same mods. Elevation, temperature, humidity, track prep, driver, etc. 9/10 times people don't run what they think they should. If you want a 14.9 just make sure to run at Atco.

I went ahead and moved the appropriate posts to the 200 WHP thread in the Drag Racing section.

I tried bringing exactly this up in post 79 of this thread, but no one seemed to notice. Its no different than using a different dyno for comparisons, or trying to say that my car has 'x' HP because someone with the same mods in another part of the country did a dyno run. It just doesn't work like that in real life.

Cant wait for cedarfalls raceway to open so I can go run some times and put an end to this. Only other mod will be st exhaust here shortly and i will be shooting for mid 15s. I know this car is faster then my friends bmw that ran 15.8 few years back.

were you just running a tune and wet shot when you did your run?

I don't know about you, but I could not care less about speed in a straight line. If I did I would have bought a mustang. 200whp Focus in the California canyons sounds like a great day to me. Part of loving a car is the time required to both pay for and install parts. Gaining an appreciation for time, effort, and value. I didn't buy my focus because it's a reliable dd, even though it is. I bought because I'd wanted a focus for a long time and the mk3 was something of a dream car. It's no supercar. It's more fun than one though. At least to me. Built > bought.

Far right is with a passenger.
As far as I can remember everything else was solo. Here's my car in warm muggy weather.

You can look up the DA on dragtimes.com they have all the weather data for the track on their website.

well after reading what you posted (whodatxevg) I feel better about my 15.7 run and feel like aftr the tune and few more mods I should be right there with you and trying to set a new record for the mk3 [nutkick]
