does anyone know if u have to change the motor mounts and ecm to make this switch possible,,,,what about the transmission and mounts,,i want to know what all will be needed besides the engine to make this swap???

dont do it man, cheper to go FI and you get a better bang for the buck, the 2.5 v6 are rated for 190hp 160ishtq, im guessing on those, but its around that

200hp focus with HEAVY V6 is gonna be slower than a boosted 200 hp Duratec... weight plays a lot in this kinda thing... plus all the extra rotating mass will slow you down... stay 4 cyl and buy a turbo!

Do you know how much they weigh? I wouldn't imagine it would be all that much more. BTW, if you are going to do it, find an SVT contour engine. I thinik they are like 220hp.

well the Duratec 25 (SVT version) made 195hp and 165ft-lbs... the updated one made 200hp and 169ft-lbs... so I figure ur gonna spend oh anywhere from $4,000-$6,000 doing this swap when you can buy a stage 2 focus sport turbo and have 220 WHP (assuming you have the 2.0) and you wont have all the added weight (however little that may be)...

my info was gathered from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duratec

Do the V6 AND a turbo...Geez guys, learn to think big....LOL

There are threads in the midatlantic with pictures somewhere. Focussalvage ( Jeremy and Ian ) have done a 2.5 dura swap and a SHO v6 swap.

if i were to do any engine swap, i would put the SVTF engine in. sure its alittle older... but the aftermarket is alot more accepted of it. so parts are cheaper, and it has 165hp stock. vs the 2.0 duratec with 136... so i would swap the SVTF engine and then turbo it...

It is def. esier to just turbo the 4 cyl. No doubt. The main think that made Jeremy's v6 cool ?? You don't see another one. I drove the car. It drives GREAT, its torquey and fun to drive. When you pop the hood it looks like the engine came in there, but you go to car shows, even as big as Carlisle and its the ONLY one there. That is cool to me.

thats really what im looking for,,and im guessing the 6 cyc cant weigh to much more then the 4 cyc duratec....and thats a big horsepower gain over the basic 2.0 duratec....then add a turbo to it and boom,,,,,but do i have to change the motor mounts?

i worked at a ford dealership for 6 years, the duratec 2.5 is garbage and they leak oil like crazy, i also had a cougar with the 2.5 it was not impressive at all. if you wanted to do a crazy swap, get the 3.4L yamaha V8 that they put in the taurus SHO

that looks bad ass,,,,how much for an engine like that,,,dont have to be new,,,and there again am i going to have to change the ecm and engine mounts? do i have to get someone to fabricate mounts for it?

The same guy..cdsilver5doorsvt has done BOTH. He had the 2.5 dura, and his brother has a SHO swap. The SHO is a BEAR to do, lotsa work. I do agree the SHO is an awesome engine !!! I am a yamaha fan.

yea ryan ur probably gonna need motor mounts... but yall have to realize with the 2.5 V6 or the 3.8 V8, you are cramped for space and cant put something like a turbo on... the only swap for a focus I've seen that is capable of making A LOT more power is the ZX351 from OK... I woulda put a roots style blower on that bad boy... but this is all just IMO

cant u do like they do with the s-10 putting a 350 in it,,cutt out the firewall,,,,could we not cutt the firewall out alittle to make more room.,,,or route pipeing to a turbo so we can relocate it? i figure if i pull my d20 out and get another engine...sho or 2.5 i can sell the d20 and make up some of the money lost on buying the new engine...what other cars do these engines ure talking about come in? so i can search junk yards for an engine,,and could i just remove the mounts with the engine i get and weld them into my focus? and about this whole ecm swap,,,,my gauges and speedo wont work right will they? or do i get the thing tuned and custom work done to make everything work with my new engine swap

The duratec 2.5 is a "bolt-in" where the SHO is custom, very custom...A few years ago on here people were argueing it couldn't be done so Ian did it...LOL, it was great, the first pics he posted people were argueing that it was photoshoped!!!

im wanting to do this for show and alittle extra pep,,,not making a race car...so i guess the 2.5 has been done a few times,,id really like to do one that no one else has...i really liked the pic of that engine someone put on here,,how much WHP does it put out? and was it in a focus? or someother car

something new and inventive....leave the engine alone, not many people do that anymore... lol..j/k... i know where you are coming from.. especially after the shhhhuff i went through on my last car.... you could always look for another manufacturer engine.... Domestic or Import.. a Ford in a Ford is not as original as a Ford Focus with a Rotary engine..lol
